• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

Soccer Countdown 9 - Joyner

Only 5 days to the exhibition game and the first real game against Utah State is a week from today, and I still have four returning players to profile... so I'll get right to it.

Crosby Joyner

Crosby Joyner is probably the most exciting player for the crowd to watch. While some freshman may appear a little tentative, Joyner is the antithesis of the word. She plays full out every minute she is on the field. A highly aggressive player, Joyner is not afraid to move the ball upfield or to take a shot. In her first game as a freshman last season (the exhibition game against Utah Valley), Joyner took two shots in less 40 minutes of playing time... and she never slowed down all season. Team stats showed Joyner with 11 shots on the season. That is a higher number of shots per minute played than Quigley or Hoffstetter, and is equivalent to the shots per minute taken by leading scorer Jana Boehler. Plus, she is highly accurate with a shot on goal percentage of .636 (second only to Taylor Powell.)

Part of what makes Joyner so much fun to watch is her extreme athleticism. She has explosive acceleration and a beautiful, long stride. This talent must run in her blood. Her mother was a gymnast at BYU and her father was the first rookie baseball player to ever be elected to the All-Star game (where he tied Darryl Strawberry in the home run derby) and was so successful for the California Angels that the fans dubbed Anaheim Stadium "Wally World."

Last year, Joyner scored one goal and earned one assist with limited time in 16 games. Over the course of the year, Joyner began adapting to Coach Gibson's system and her improvement was obvious. If she continues to improve this next year and earns both the starting position and extensive playing time, who knows what kind of offensive force she might become? Maybe the fans will end up referring to Davis Field as "Crosby World."
