Great read about the rivalry from SUU's perspective.

From the article:
Last month, Warren was studying film for SUU’s game against Sacramento State. He found his eyes being drawn more and more to the Hornets’ opponent: Weber State.

"I know my blood boiled,” Warren said. “I had a hard time keeping my eyes off the other team. I think the guys had a little bit of that going on. If I had it as the head coach, I’m pretty sure our players did too.”
Any wonder Sac St destroyed them? What a bunch of whiny losers. Get over it already. They're letting it affect their whole season, and not in a good way. :dunce:

Wow...the birds have serious issues. Maybe we should send Warren and his team a puppy, comfort blanket, or a stuffed animal. YIKES, SUU needs a Psychiatrist. A bit obsessed are we? It seems like the birds are that creepy girl that keeps following you around hoping to be seen. Fatal Attraction anyone?!?

Last years game was pretty awesome for a Wildcat fan, and yes, admittedly, shocking and tragic for the birds. But, you play a game for four quarters. Momentum can change in a heartbeat. YET, should I hate them anymore for the shellacking we got two years ago on our home field? And how they ran up the score that night? There have been some really interesting games against the birds over the past few years and frankly, they have won more than their share, when really they shouldn't have. Two examples...Coach Hill's first year and Mac's last year as coach. In Mac's last game against them, there were some really interesting calls that helped them "Steal" a win. Granted, yes, Sears stole a win in Cedar his first season. What I am saying is that you can't obsessed about last years game. If you do, you don't focus on other games. So is Warren blaming Weber for the total ass kicking his birds got at Sac St? Heavens...

The stakes are there, even the animosity is there, but Hill thinks there’s one last step for the series to take the step into full-fledged rivalry: The fans must embrace it.

“I think the rivalry is important,” Hill said. “For the rivalry to take off in the state, it’s important to us, it’s important to me and I know it is to coach Warren. We want those in college football. Really, though, rivalries are formed by the fans. As the fans come out and support this thing, it will just get bigger and bigger.”

On Saturday, the T-Bird and Wildcat fans will get to show how good their memories are.

I hope SUU brings 8,000 fans to the game Saturday. We'll take their money and send them home crying. Sounds like the T-Birds have been crying since last year, and will arrive crying. I hope they have enough tears left for the bus ride home.
Things are good, but they are sure to get better!

Interesting stat, in the last 10 Beehive Bowl games, the home team is only 3-7

Lets hope Weber can buck that trend this weekend.

Hate to burst anyone's bubble but the latest forecast for Sat in Otown is high - 51/ low - 34 with 50%+ chance of rain. Now I know that some here really like the cold rain/snow conditions but I'm tellin' ya that a good sizeable crowd isn't likely with that. Of Course the weather can change quickly & hopefully those fair-weather-fans will show up for a instate game that possibly features the best (maybe only) chance for a Utah Div I football team to win this weekend. (That was mentioned on the KSL-TV sports news.) :o
Then those fans can stay home, One of my favorite Weber State games I ever attended was played during a freaking monsoon in 2008 against the then ranked #3 Montana Grizzlies. Everyone who stays home could miss a pretty epic game regardless of who wins.

To those scared of bad weather there are these things that were invented, they are called coats and umbrellas....Buy one.

As for me I was sitting on the side of the mountain last weekend in the Uintas in 30 degree weather with a wind chill that made it feel more like 20 degrees. So nothing short of a hurricane is going to keep me from going to the Beehive Bowl this weekend.

GO WILDCATS
:agree:

The forecast has been changing the past day or two and will continue to change some the next day or two. The source I tend to use most is forecasting 46° and 0% chance measurable precip. at game start, and 40° with a 1% chance by the end of the game.

"a good sizeable crowd isn't likely" period. The weather is just another reason we like to use as a reason this community and student body is lame when it comes to WSU attendance.
On the plus side, the latest weather looks like dry for the evening & it's not on TV. The FBSers are all on the road? That helps with the "community" casual fans that I'm referring to...as for the students, that's another matter. My only point was that those wanting a "huge" crowd are likely to be disappointed because with a lot of "excuse maker" people, they choose not to bundle up themselves & the family to attend a outdoor Wildcat football game. They skip it, is my experience, & whether liking it or not, I understand. :wall:

I'm bundling up my kids and driving them to the game from N. Utah County. After the N. Arizona snow game all those years ago, this is nothing. ;-)

I will believe that SUU thinks of this game as a rivalry when they bring 3,000+ fans with them to the game.
I don't think their community even likes the fact that SUU is in their town. :wall:

The fans in Ogden sure don't look at this game as a rivalry. Some of the players might see it that way, but the fans..., not so much. :coffee:

Um, I do considering they had a record crowd of over 10,000 for their homecoming game against Cal Poly. Has Weber had a crowd of over 10,000 this year?

The thing is Weber fans should. Weber is in dire need of a rival. The current rivalry with Idaho State is almost dead, there has been little to no excitement for that game for quite a while and is just a protected rival due to proximity and history at this point. Weber fans can claim Montana and Montana State are rivals but the truth is Griz and Bobcat fans do not consider us rivals.

Now we have Southern Utah, An instate foe who is in fact Weber's biggest recruiting challenge due to the fact that both schools are trying to recruit the same kids and the winner of the Beehive Bowl could get leverage on who gets the recruit to commit, thus in turn making the game important. It's true that at this moment the hate is a little stronger on the SUU side right now, but that's due to them feeling like they are treated like the little brother by us, (kinda like we feel with Utah State in basketball).

This game is very important, no there isn't much history between the two schools, but it's a HUGE recruiting tool for both schools for State of Utah kids. Yes Weber leads the series 16-7 but after winning the first 11 games, SUU has won 7 of the last 12 and that does not sit well with me. That shouldn't sit well with any Weber fan.

I feel the same way you do. I should have said "most WSU fans", I over generalized. It will take a long time for the "little brother" aspect of our relationship with SUU to fade away. Let's face it, they are the little brother in many, many respects. The little brother does beat the big brother from time to time. I hope that it's not this year and I don't think it will be. :coffee:

Until the student body cares, nothing will really change at Weber. Almost 28K students enrolled this Fall and we can't even get a decent sign on campus.

 Agree fully with you guys there...& remember how Weber State fought the "little brother" image state-wide in basketball for all those years past (still in the mindset of my older bro's). Most outsiders even struggled with name pronunciation...NO! NOT "WEBBER" & NO! NOT "HARRISON HIGH"!!! Progress has arguably been made & I think it will with the SUU competition. SUU crowd (maybe mostly local family/friends) was impressive last games at Stewart Stadium. :twocents:

I have to imagine he has a concussion after that hit on the sideline.

Shaw looks horrendous. First half went as poorly as possible, including the no-call on a block in the back that set up the 2nd SUU TD pass.
