Yeah, I'll dig em up tomorrow when I get a chance if you want. Most of the atuff I saw was on twitter, but they're linked to articles om the interwebs. Do a quick google search, you'll find it. There's even a couple which mentioned Baldwin "exiling Adams"...which is fucking laughable.

Overcoming adversity implies you didn't buy your way out of obscurity and cut every corner you could along they way. You've earned very little, but you've sure bought a lot. Years of suffering a below mediocre program doesn't get you respect or a get out of jail free card now that you've won the lottery and run a dirty program.

Respect is earned not purchased.

Rooting for Oregon is like rooting for Manchester City in soccer. It's just one wealthy guy buying success at any cost. In Europe, they would call Oregon a "Plastic Club." What's hilarious is that EVERYONE else in the Pac12 hates Oregon. I don't remember UW or USC being hated in the same manner when the ruled the Pac-12 roost. Every other Pac-12 university hates Oregon, however.

lbeagle saying Oregon is the Kim Kardashian of college football is dead-on. Hell, I bet "SpokaneDuck" probably roots for fucking Gonzaga as well. Why not pile on the douchieness?
USC was and is one of the most hated CFB programs in the country, let alone the Pac-12. UW was never as hated as USC largely because it never had anywhere near the same level of sustained success, but they're still well-loathed. Hell, UW has been god-awful for over a decade and they're still the most hated team in Oregon and eastern Washington.

And regarding your Manchester City analogy, you can't buy success in CFB in the way you can in the EPL; Man City can literally buy players, Oregon can't. Oregon can improve facilities and improve its coaching in the hope of enticing recruits, but so can every CFB program. Man City's budget is immense, Oregon's athletic budget is no larger than comparable elite FBS programs. etc. There's no comparison.

If Oregon's success was truly just a function of the recruits it "buys", then it would just finish in the #15-20 every year, corresponding to its average recruiting class. Yet Oregon is a perennial top 5 program. It vastly overachieves its recruiting, and that has very little to do with money, and everything to do with coaching. development, and the culture it has established over the last 20+ years.

Oregon isn't buying players? Lache Seastrunk and Colt Lyerla might disagree.

No, actually, neither of those guys would disagree, since they both told the media they didn't get paid a dime. Lyerla, who is from Oregon, even seemed miffed about it.

Was Beau Baldwin whining about SMU developing Bo Levi Mitchell to the point he could start immediately at EWU (he'd have to sit out a year had he transferred to an FBS school ... doesn't that seem unfair to him?) and win a national title?

Or was that type of transfer OK, since it gives FCS schools a big edge in recruiting transfers at the FBS level?

Now you're accusing Vernon Adams of taking money to go to Oregon? Way to smear the kid. I'm sure that will help with recruiting.

Come play for EWU, win a bunch of games, sell a bunch of tickets, bring a bunch of publicity to the EWU program, get your degree on time, and then listen to us bash your decision to move onward and upward with your life after you've graduated. Hell, some of us will even accuse you of committing major NCAA violations.

Fantastic recruiting pitch. Yet if the Wazzu opens up after next season, I guarantee you Baldwin wouldn't think twice about improving his life by moving to a larger opportunity.

More of a commentary on Helfrich's poor recruiting

Post by sammamisheag » Thu Feb 12, 2015 4:29 pm

Tells you what the future holds when he'll take an incoming Senior QB over the FBS kids he already has in his program.

According to Scout UOP has the #21 class in 2015, #22 in 2014 and #17 in 2013.

3 out of the 4 QBs recruited have transferred to other schools the past two seasons. Oregon granted them their release, no questions asked, and didn't whine to the media about it, or how it hurt their QB depth.

Brian Bennett to SE LA, where he was invited to play in the Senior Bowl.

Damian Hobbs, who will be Utah State's starting QB next year, if not the following, depending on Chuckie Keeton's waiver request.

Jake Rodrigues, who will be the starting QB at San Diego State next year.

That's a lot of talent to lose at one position in two seasons, and it leaves only one non-freshman at the QB position, Jeff Lockie, who was the lowest-rated of the 4, and likely would have been 5th string this season had the others stayed.

What was Beau Baldwin's reason for letting Bo Levi Mitchell come into the EWU program and start for a season? Didn't that take playing time away from the current QBs on the EWU roster? Or does that not count, because FCS gets to play by special rules (no sitting out a year) when they poach FBS players? Rob Ash and Beau Baldwin are coming across as big babies to everyone outside of your little FCS bubble in the NW.

Both did disagree. Seastrunk to the NCAA, and Lyerla to the media. Hell, Lylerla seemed pissed he wasn't being paid.

Any other lies you'd like to spread? Wasn't EWU on major NCAA probation not long ago, to the point they were banned from the postseason until they appealed and had at least the ban lifted? Something about glass houses comes to mind.

Please cite specifically where Baldwin bashed Vernon. I'll be waiting.

Here is the bottom line: Great programs lose great players all the time, but replace them with other great players. And that is exactly what EWU will do.

I wish Vernon the best in his future endeavors, but it's time to move on.

Yep. Get the best available player for your team, like Baldwin did when he brought Bo Levi Mitchell to be a two-year starter because he didn't have better options by his own recruiting.

Hell, bringing in the drop-down QB got EWU a title. Maybe Adams can do the same for Oregon! That would be quite a coincidence.

Baldwin profusely praising Oregon now on Portland radio, and saying he was acting out of emotion earlier in the week. He apologized for what he agrees to be needlessly disparaging the Oregon program, and he can see why Vernon would make the decision he did.

Also said Oregon went strictly by the book, and praised Mark Helfrich, too.

I guess he doesn't want the game cancelled next September.
