12-10 Hornets stop a big losing streak to win on the road for the first time this season over Idaho State by 4 points. Huge win over the 6-16 Bengals.

Great to see our highest paid coach on campus earning his $284,000.00 plus benefits after ten ears or more of excellence
Excellence?

Excellence in regards to the type of student-athletes he has brought in to represent us. The last I heard something like 35 of the 37 athletes he has brought in have graduated. Kids with character, proud to have them as fellow alumni, unlike some of the gym rats previous coaches recruited.

Academic success is no question, Katz has done an excellent job.

But, is the school happy with that or do they want to win bball games?

Why cant they do both?
At a certain point, a BSC Championship would be expected?

Without winning, the school will perpetually have to fully subsidize the team as paying fans will only top out at 649. You cant fund a proper DI program on 649 fans a game. Since Sac State is hobo cheap, I think this program will always be an after thought.

Too bad we cant drop M&W BBall.

Seems the city of Sacramento is a deathbed for basketball at any level.

I was being sarcastic with my comment about excellence . Figured people would pick that up. My bad.
The graduation rate for the program is no doubt incredible.

And I like our coach very much and he deserves his pay.

Just want the program to win a Big Sky title. 25 years with no basketball trophy on J Street during our time in the Big Sky.

And not even close to being part of March Madness.

Will continue to wait.

Coach Katz is an excellent coach. He is highly regarded by the other programs and coaches in our conference. Our teams do not give in and battle every game. In his 11 seasons Montana has won the conference 5 times and Weber 4 times. No surprise, two best facilities by a huge margin. If the administration could figure out a way to get an event center we would start winning championships. In spite of the facility, during his tenure, we would have had two or three championships and an NCAA tournament appearance or two if we were in the Big West. Which is where we should be. We would win the Big West this season. The administration needs to extend Coach Katz and get the event center done.

Hmm...bold statements.

I'd agree that I think our team should be in the Big West. Been wanting that for a long time. That's just a natural fit for our Olympic sports.

I disagree that peeps think Big Sky has traditionally been better than the Big West in MBB. Maybe this year, but historically, absolutely not. If you follow mid-major basketball closely, there's a better perception of Big West basketball than Big Sky and rightfully so.

I'd pump the breaks hard on the Katz situation. I wrote a whole post about our ceiling as a program under the current factors on this chain, so I won't bored anyone by repeating it.

Peeps on here that follow this year (and many previous years) closely knows that Katz has been one dimensional to say the least. When it comes to coaching, it's plan A or bust with no adjustments (this year is dump the ball the Patton and get out of the way). If people are going to argue that fact, then I there's nothing left to debate b/c the same games are not being watched.

Now before I get to this point, I LOVE LOVE the fact that Katz and staff has done an *elite* job with the program when it comes to academics and graduation rate. But if that's the only thing that you can hang your hat on when it comes to a mens basketball program, then there's nothing we can do as fans. But if you want to win, then maybe the coaching staff needs to start looking at kids that might not have the 3.0 GPA but still is a good kid and qualifies to play D1. If we all remember, the one glory year of this program was led by a kid who might not have been a super star in the classroom (went the JUCO route), but a great human being and qualified to play at the D1 level by the name of Mikh McKinney. Katz wasn't even going to recruit him if it wasn't for some nudging by a few folks within the business as he has admitted himself. Maybe, just maybe, that is our answer if we want to start winning at this level with our current set up

Hornets (15-14, 8-12 BSC) finish the regular season with a close loss at Portland State and limp into Boise on a 2 game losing streak. Hornets got unlucky in the other games and finish with the 9th seed and face 8th seed Weber State (12-19, 8-12 BSC) for an 830 AM game on Wednesday.

Harding torched the Hornets for 44 points in the last meeting. Weber is probably the worst draw the Hornets could have pulled in the 1st round, these things happen when you can't take care of business in the regular season. Hornets are still a win away from locking up a winning record.

We're toast... Anyways, watching the PSU game - man, I'm not for remodeling Yosemite Hall, but PSU did a very nice job turning the Stott Center into a respectable 3k seat facility.

We're toast? Funny, you would say that. In looking at the Weber State forum, they are actually the ones worried that they have to play us in the first round. They feel they won't be able to pull the win against us.

I think it all depends on how well Harding plays and whether or not we can actually defend him this time around. Even with Harding's scoring, if Patton doesn't meltdown in the final minute at Ogden then we possibly sweep them this year. The problem is we don't have a play-maker on the roster that can match a Harding type of performance. I have this game as a coin toss.

Hornets finish the season 16-14 (9-12 BSC). BSCT is cancelled due to the Coronavirus, but a match up with top seeded EWU in the 2nd round was on the docket.

Another solid season for the Hornets, & a top notch Defense.

Why can't March Madness become May Madness? Postpone, don't cancel it!

If Arenas are a problem, let higher ranked teams host.
