Congrats to the Hornets for bringing home the first regular season Big Sky softball championship on the road against the Griz at Montana. Big win, big finish.

Best of luck next week at the BSC tournament in Ogden for the chance to move on to the NCAA tourney.

Softball closed the season with a 31-20 (14-7 BSC) record. The Hornets finally got over the hump in the BSC and landed a regular season title and won the BSC Tournament to earn the auto-bid to Regionals.

At Regionals the Hornets played well except for a few innings here and there which unfortunately is all difference. Hornets hung tough against 2nd ranked UCLA but lost 3-0. The Hornets lost the following day to 22nd ranked Texas State 8-4. The Hornets couldn’t take advantage when there were RISP and Texas State blew the game wide open in the top of the 7th.

The Hornets only graduate 3 players, so hopefully this season sets the tone for a dominating run in the BSC for the next few years.

Softball in the Big Sky seems so natural for Sac State to be the best.

The best pitcher of the league is Celina Matthias, who pitches for Sac State. It will be her last year and it will be difficult to replace her.
