The PAC/MWC Dominoes Begin to Fall

FL A&M isn't exactly the HBCU that immediately pops into mind for a move-up to FBS. For me, the list starts and ends with Grambling State and Southern, at the very least due to name recognition. You have to have that to get teams to play you in FBS....
Ummm A & M had once made the jump to FBS in 2004, not likely to move up now but they have been there before.

Daughter just graduated from Fullerton, there was a major push a few years ago to bring back football, I even got one of their CSUF football thinking it would be great to see them back. It fizzled. Most of the 42k students are commuters, with most having at least an hour commute. Pipe dream. Heck their flagship sport baseball is middle of the pack Big West now. Thank God she is doing grad school at Sac.
CSU Presidents can just do things. There's a reason Dr. Wood went through the alternative consultation process to get the student fees increased. Fulleton's President could have done the same thing if she/he really wanted to reinstate football. It all goes back to leadership and how much fortitude they have towards implementing their agenda.

Per the Knight database, the median FCS football budget was $5.2M in 2024. At 42k students, Fullerton could implement a fee increase of $62 per semester to cover the cost of a median FCS football budget. Round it up to $85 to cover matching Title IX scholarships/sports costs for an annual increase of $7.1M.

Long Beach has a 41k enrollment. Northridge has almost a 38k enrollment. Compare that to Sac State that is at 31k enrollment who has maintained a football program this entire time. Never let the "it's too expensive for FB in CA" narratives to get run, it's all on weak and pathetic leadership as to why those SoCal CSU's and UC's don't have football.

"Good read, although one thing to note is the NCAA didn’t deny Sac State’s FBS waiver, school and conference administrators on the D1 Council denied it"

Semantics.
