Battle at QB

Yeah, I feel like we are strong at the, so called, skill positions. What happens in the trenches is what will determine how well we compete. That is true on both sides of the ball. With all the rebuilding going on, coaching will be even more important than it usually is. I like the vibe emanating from this crew.

Mental never truly had an open competition in my opinion. He stuck too long with QBs who were struggling and wouldn’t ever sit a QB out if they were struggling.

I’m getting the sense this will not be the case with Kjar. It will be interesting to see the competition unfold.

I don't think that Mental had a good handle on how to effectively use the talents of his players on offense. Also, I don't feel that he was a motivational leader for the team as a whole.

The telling thing to me was how well we played with guys who had previously played very little. Makes me wonder why they were not contributing before then. Either Mental did not see their talent or he just couldn't put them in situations to show that talent. Not a good look either way. On the defensive side, I feel that they had simply lost too much talent to the portal and did not fill the void with recruiting and development.

That is all about the recipe for failure. Our hope is that this new staff is better at all of those things. So far, they are making all the right sounds. Coach Kjar seems to be the kind of coach that players would run through a brick wall for.
