The NCAA D1 transfer list is already over 200 players and Weber State has not officially updated its roster to allow the players that will no longer be with the program to have an early shot at finding new homes.

13=13 and its a foregone conclusion that we will have significant roster changes this offseason. I'm confident that Rahe and staff are working hard to find new homes for the impacted players, but it seems that the earlier he can release them from the program the better chance they have of catching on to a new program!

No doubt this is an ugly part of collegiate sports, but sometimes changes are good for both the player and the school!

Seems like it must be difficult seeing new players commit to the program, but not being able to know where you're going to finish your collegiate eligibility and education.
 
this part of the sport always makes me cringe. as long we we keep with the high graduate rate in the rahe era then so be it.
 
Agree and I have nothing but best wishes for the players not returning.

Although comments on forums can be cruel, I think everyone on here wishes their best for all the players. they've been good citizens and represented the program well. Although I'm excited to welcome the incoming freshmen and transfers, its tough knowing that some players will not return.

Sports can be cruel and this offseason in particular will be one of the cruelest in our programs history. We live in a performance culture and wins and losses can mean people's jobs. I know Coach Rahe and believe that this is part of the job he doesn't like, but to be successful its important to upgrade talent.

I cheered for the signings of John and Baker, but we should be just as excited in hoping that players no longer with the program land as well as possible in a new program! Its a tough life lesson, but sometimes in life things are not a good fit!

We've had a full season, poor season, to look at all of the guys. I think that we all have a good idea of who will be transferring out of the program and at what level they might be successful. They have been good men in our community, good students at WSU, and deserve our admiration and respect. They have worked hard and done the best that they could. I wish them nothing but the best.

I am always excited for new recruits, because they represent untapped potential. Here's to hoping that they all come in and realize their full potential. If they do, it is not only good for them, but for all of us as well. :thumb: :thumb:

I'm about 99.99% sure that it is none of the unusual stuff mentioned in that analysis. I'm sure that the solution will be straight forward, that at least two of the players involved have known since fall, and that the remaining involved players have already been talked to about what their options are. Sometime in the next two months, announcements will be made on who is transferring out.

One would have to be totally uninformed to not be anticipating these moves. It really should not surprise anybody. Even a casual observer could see a few players on this years roster were not quite at the D1 level and at least one other did not fit what we have come to expect from a player at his position.

For me to name names would be totally meaningless and somewhat reckless. Suffice it to say that I just want the best resolution for everyone involved. :nod:

Disagree 100%! The sooner the players get released, the better for their future. I don't know how engaged you are in college hoops, but the count of ANNOUNCED transfers is up to +200 players. These kids deserved to be released as soon as possible to allow schools to recruit their services. There are only so many available roster spots, let's give these kids a chance to pursue their dream if Weber has determined that they are not a good fit. Montana State and others schools announced last week to give their players a chance to start the process, our players deserve the same courtesy. You're being naive if you truly beleive that these players were not told that they wouldn't be allotted playing time going forward. That weighed heavy in their decision to leave the team. It is what it is, but making them wait two months to be released is not the type of behavior expected of an institution like Weber. Announcements are being made every week of new signees. It doesn't make sense to keep these players dangling from a string. I hope Coach is helping them find a new home...... Can't think of any reason why we wouldn't give these kids the chance to focus on their next career move....
 
I'm not in the know one way or the other, but I have a pretty good feeling that those players being released already know that they won't be back and are contacting schools. Weber has a pretty record of finding options for players leaving its program.
 
There's a lot that goes into how this is perceived publicly. You want to make sure that you're not upsetting High School and JUCO coaches. Graduation rates are a concern when you turn over 25% of your roster and most importantly how players and potential players view your program!

If you've already identified and communicated with the players, move on and allow them to seek other opportunities. Unless there's something that I'm missing? They see the signings and they know the numbers.

Okay, so, we know that certain players are leaving. I think we all have a fairly good idea of who will be here and won't next Fall. Randy has stated a few times that he made some mistakes in recruiting and that he is determined not to allow that to happen again. We also all know who played a lot, some, and not at all. We can pretty much determined who the "mistakes" were and who didn't play and who will play less next year. Those are the players who are candidates for leaving. Yes, they have the option to walk on, but will they? I think no matter what they end up doing and where they end up going, we definitely have to show our appreciation for what they were able to do and did, while they were here. I'm thankful for their efforts and hard work, and all I can say is thank you for giving it your best shot. Being an Division I athlete is not the easiest thing to do and they made it to this level and were able to play for a very good program. That to me, is something that merits our respect and admiration.

Now, onto 2015-16!!

Read youngs post..... It's actually positive not negative. What he's saying is move on and give the players the opportunity to get on with their careers. I see nothing wrong with that! If you understand recruiting and the finite numbers of spots available you would understand the urgency.

I saw nothing that was in any way negative..... If you would actually read the post you might think differently. It's not much different than what the reporter put in his blog!
 
Not everyone understands the dynamics of recruiting! I know purple means well, just doesnt understand the process. It would help if he tried to learn instead of lashing out!

Please reread my post and tell me where I wasn't being positive? I was only commenting on the fact that Youngs and evidently you, both think that the kids haven't already been released. Just because the transfer list doesn't have any Weber State guys on it, do you really think that Randy isn't letting the players go out and look for other options? How about this one, maybe those guys intending to transfer have already found other options. Please tell me about any past player, during Randy's tenure, who hasn't been taken care of. I think of one. Josh Fuller and that is only because Randy and Judkins down at Dixie have issues. Josh had a lot of offers and to be frank, Randy did not want him to transfer. He wanted Josh to stick around. In that case a coach can chose not to sign a release. If he doesn't then that player, who elects to transfer must sit out for a season. I'm beyond sure that Randy is taking care of his guys. Do everyone a favor an stop being an inept conspiracy theorist with youngs.

Recruiting is a business. DI basketball is all about results. Unfortunately some make the cut and others don't. I just hope that the guys leaving are being treated fairly. I like what younggun is saying. The earlier the guys can get their information out the more chances they have of getting picked up. Yet, regrettably, most of our transfers, due to NCAA rules, will only be able to drop a division. They will probably all find their way to DII schools.
 
I apologize! I should never put anyone on the same level as Tal; except those who deserve to be there (Mycats). Youngs, I offended you, I am sorry. You are only concerned about the players and that is an appropriate reaction. Mycats, you are on the same level as Tal. Both odious and despicable posters. Please be sure to read thoroughly before replying with an off hand and irresponsible post.

Before you all get your nighties in a knot, It is one thing to be released from your scholarship and totally another to have it announced. It seems that some of us are concerned that an announcement not being made will somehow hurt a players ability to find a new home. So they are not on a list somewhere, so what. It does not stop them from seeking a transfer or shopping themselves around. Also, The coaches may point them to some programs where they might fit in, but that does not obligate them in any way. Most of them will have their own contact lists as well.

Those lists that you see are not the end all. I'm sure that the true numbers of transferring players is much higher. Not being on that list does not restrict the transfer in any way. :wall:
 
The real reason nothing has been reported is that coach Rahe's stalker, I mean new BFF, Brandon Garside mentioned to coach when they had their "really cool in depth talk" a few weeks ago that he wanted to break the exclusive news about the changes. I am sure that Brandon will report the changes soon. He is young and inexperienced in his role as team reporter/cheerleader/butt-kisser. But he is working hard and getting better everyday and if he keeps scratching and clawing we might get the information soon.

That is my conspiracy theory. By the way 12 = 13 at Einstein Bros bagels.

Totally expected, if not openly stated, by just about everyone on this board. They are good men and can play and be very good at the D11 level.

There will be one more transfer coming, not counting some walk-ons. Likewise, everyone has a good idea of who that will be, but just doesn't want to say it publicly until it is public knowledge from another source.

All of this has been expected for quite some time now. It shouldn't be a shock to anybody.

The good news is that our obvious weaknesses have been addressed and things should begin to look up.

If you are about to jump off a tall building, you probably should hold up for a while yet. :coffee:

I don't want to be down on the basketball program, but the players deserved a press release from Coach Rahe, not a reporter at ESPN. Seems unprofessional.

Need to be as professional on departures as we were in announcing that they joined the program. I completely understand that this is a tough business, but communications is key! Obviously if Goodman was able to report that they were transferring then communication is being handle at a different level. Good luck to both and thanks for their contributions at Weber State!
