Hows the Birds of EW looking?
Your right on your comment, first time in 5 years the Bison aren't the hunted but will go back to hunting, which I think we refuel the fire for this heavy senior team of 21 seniors, most since 2013 when they went 15-0, making 3 in a row.
Many Bison fans feel they will have one of the top linebackers in the nation going pro, much like your Kupp is going to go well in the draft. Hope he lands in Philly with Carson Wentz, they worked out together this off season and the chemistry is there.
I hope this is the FCS Kickoff Game but don't know until mid summer.
So Beau your coach gone whats the outlook for the Eagles?
Keep in touch,

Hello BisonBisMan;
Welcome to our board, it has been really slow lately. The most interesting thing going is the NFL draft and where Cooper may end up. He is getting really high marks when the overall package is considered but some are hung up on his 4.5+ forty time.
This is an interesting time for EWU football, as you noted BB is gone. We have a number of new coaches and I understand there is a notable difference in the tone of practices. Just as when you lost Bohls the program will continue to be successful. The culture is in place that will keep the program strong.
As far as players we seem to have lots of speed. The Oline is young but quite a bit of experience and very deep. The d-line is not big, but fast and VERY athletic. Even though we lost three great WR's there are about 5 really outstanding receivers ready to fill in. At the scrimmage last week Gage Gubrud looked in regular season form and appeared to gain quite a bit of strength. Supposedly the strategy this season is to be a more run focused team but that did not show last weekend. Time will tell on that count.
I thought I had heard or read NDSU was in the kickoff classic game but vs Mississippi Valley State. I'm with you in that The game EWU vs NDSU would be more interesting for the first college football game. I for one can't wait.
I can see it now ESPN gameday in Cheney Wa!!

Well I think you have a descent perspective of this game. We Bison Fans are seeing some new future Freshman Redshirts that are going to be impact 4 year starters for us, so won't surprise me if we have 5 Redshirt freshman starting combined total on both sides. That is highly unusual for us but they are that talented and can't be sitting, so let'em roll.Jibjab68 said:Eags and Bison will be another outstanding game for sure. The interesting comparisons to me are the two defenses and the two Qb's. While NDSU's D has to have the edge in history, returning talent and hype, I think EWU's D has to be a wildcard in this game and could be the key to an Eags victory. Bison fans probably do not know the improvements our young Defense made from the time we played them through the playoffs. Eags JT Tiulli will be as good of a Nose Tackle the Bison will face this year. Our LB corp returns a salty bunch in Kupp, Calhoun and Kacmarcik and may even be better than last year even with losing Zamora. With a renewed focus on our offensive running game I expect our front 7 to be much more physical and improved against the run. I love our defensive secondary. In my opinion it is the strength of our team right now. They will need to be great against NDSU play action if we need to load the box to control the run game.
DLine - draw
LB's - slight edge NDSU
DB's slight edge EWU
Offensively this will be an interesting game. Gubrud and Stick are two of the premier Qb's in all of FCS football. I love the leadership and fire Gage is showing in Spring. I expect his numbers to be slightly down this year due to the renewed focus on the run but he will continue to produce numerous explosive plays because of his feet and speedy receivers. Losing three of the best receivers in college football is hard to replace. Nsimba Webster has looked like a Shaq Hill this spring. Amazing speed and four 20+ yd touchdown in the first two spring scrimmages make him look like a force to be reckoned with. I expect Splendorio and Grady at 6'4" tall to be big contributors as well. Add in Jayson Williams, Stu Stiles and a host of others and I think teams will find out that our receivers are re-loaded not re-building. The x-factor for the Eags this year could be the TE's. Although they have not shown it yet in spring due to injuries, Soph Jayce Gilder 6'5 245# and Jr Henderson Belk 6'4 240# are two returners who are very capable. If our running game gets going look for these two to bring some good stats to that position out of a renewed play action game. Rb's are solid this year at EWU. It will be a tall task for them to reach Bison RB standards but Soph Antoine Custer, Soph Tamarick Pierce and Jr Sam McPherson are a three headed monster that Coach Best wants to see play a bigger role in the offense. O-Line behind our DB's is another big strength of the Eags. LT Ellison 300#, LG Taylor 325# C Blackburn #295 RG Hunter #305 and RT Schlicting at #300 all have a year of experience under their belt. They were good last year. I expect them to be great this year.
QB slight edge EWU
RB's edge NDSU
Oline slight edge EWU
WR slight edge EWU
Coaching edge NDSU
intangibles/experience draw.
I do not expect a shootout. This will be very close but the Eags are tough to beat at home.
Way to early prediction Eags 23-Bison 21 on a last second field goal.

I have a lot of family that went to NDSU and are big time Bison fans, so I just don't have the hatred for the Bison that many UND people do. That being said, they have been the cream of the crop for the past several year, and EWU did a heck of a job last season in Fargo. Go get em this year.

As for the FCS kickoff game, you won't see NDSU in another one as the staff hates them and already turned down opportunity due to such an early start to the year, and now with the two-a-day ban makes it even worse

In college sports, the home team's media deal applies. That's why our game with NDSU last year was on ESPN3. The Big Sky deal is with Fox Sports via their Root Sports affiliate. From what I understand, Root Sports has declined the game (I have no explanation for this unless they have a bigger event to cover). Therefore, our secondary contract with SWX network (our local coverage) would have the rights. They broadcast all of their games on a local network and give the rights to eversport.tv for live internet coverage of their broadcast. I'm pretty well certain you can catch the game that way. I don't believe Eastern has any deals with ESPN unless their contact supersedes our own (such as playoff games).
phannson88 said:If ESPN doesn't pick it up, all of our non-contracted games are televised in Washington on SWX and can be streamed on the internet free of charge. We have excellent coverage for an FCS team.
