The Bison are looking to bounce back.

We are in their way so be ready September 9

Hello Clawman.
Hows the Birds of EW looking?
Your right on your comment, first time in 5 years the Bison aren't the hunted but will go back to hunting, which I think we refuel the fire for this heavy senior team of 21 seniors, most since 2013 when they went 15-0, making 3 in a row.
Many Bison fans feel they will have one of the top linebackers in the nation going pro, much like your Kupp is going to go well in the draft. Hope he lands in Philly with Carson Wentz, they worked out together this off season and the chemistry is there.
I hope this is the FCS Kickoff Game but don't know until mid summer.
So Beau your coach gone whats the outlook for the Eagles?

Keep in touch,
BisonBisMan

Hello BisonBisMan;
Welcome to our board, it has been really slow lately. The most interesting thing going is the NFL draft and where Cooper may end up. He is getting really high marks when the overall package is considered but some are hung up on his 4.5+ forty time.
This is an interesting time for EWU football, as you noted BB is gone. We have a number of new coaches and I understand there is a notable difference in the tone of practices. Just as when you lost Bohls the program will continue to be successful. The culture is in place that will keep the program strong.
As far as players we seem to have lots of speed. The Oline is young but quite a bit of experience and very deep. The d-line is not big, but fast and VERY athletic. Even though we lost three great WR's there are about 5 really outstanding receivers ready to fill in. At the scrimmage last week Gage Gubrud looked in regular season form and appeared to gain quite a bit of strength. Supposedly the strategy this season is to be a more run focused team but that did not show last weekend. Time will tell on that count.
I thought I had heard or read NDSU was in the kickoff classic game but vs Mississippi Valley State. I'm with you in that The game EWU vs NDSU would be more interesting for the first college football game. I for one can't wait.
I can see it now ESPN gameday in Cheney Wa!!

Our D will be strong, return a Buchanon award nominee that was out last year in Nick Deluca and lotsof experience.

but to the nitty gritty, anyone know when and if they will have Visitor or any tickets go onsale, have a crew wanting to go to the game and hang out with the EWU folks good crew, love to intermingle and we dont really care the outcome love College Football, of course we are Bison fans but would cause any trouble...probably need 6-10 tickets

Thanks

Well I do agree, with New OC at NDSU from Montana St. he might inject some more pass plays to make us less run dimensional and thus making us really hard to predict on offense. Our QB 3rd year starting Jr. (Stick) he will be at his best and experienced more now too so remember he was Carson Wentz understudy so with more pass work this off season he could be even better but his legs are as fast as any of our RB's so he is a dble threat, I think your QB is a dude as well, kicked us around last year for sure.

Your Team being new coaches all around and reloading with new talent, this game should be a shootout in my opinion and our best FCS matchup of the early season until Conference in October begins.
The Red Carpet is not a good past memory for Bison fans in 2010 qtr.finals but an exciting college FB game non the less... and the rest is history....
I see this one being more the same, but our Defense could be very salty this year and better on pass rush and coverage so that will make us a tough team to score on, but as last year went, EWU knows how to spread it and who knows what the hell is going to happen?

I hope ESPN 2 carries this one or ESPN 3 College for us Fans who won't be traveling.

Let the journey to Frisco begin for 2017,
BisBisonMan

If ESPN doesn't pick it up, all of our non-contracted games are televised in Washington on SWX and can be streamed on the internet free of charge. We have excellent coverage for an FCS team.

clawman,
Sept 9th will be my 83rd BD. You are so correct, the OF is young, but two years for most of them. This day will be a "Happy Birthday" for Vic, should I still be around. The Defense was very fast yesterday. Again you are correct, we lost three Outstanding WR, but there is (7) Nic Sblendorio, (14) Jayson Williams,(22) Nsimba Webster, (12) Keonte White, (was switched this week fm DB, to WR, his new #12, switched from 25. (80) Zach Eagle, (81) Stu Stiles, (82) Xavier James, (87) Dre' Sonte Dorton, (88) Terence Grady, and they are all going to be at the top of their games. At the Scrimmage yesterday we had approximate 8 Players wanting to join the team in another year. They are still in HS. Hope to see you and the wife at the feed next Saturday, @4:30 pm to 11:00 p.m. Maybe see you then. Take care. Vic E. Wallace

Anyone know if Bill Fette is going to make an appearance?

I hope everyone will be there with (cow) bells on!

Eags and Bison will be another outstanding game for sure. The interesting comparisons to me are the two defenses and the two Qb's. While NDSU's D has to have the edge in history, returning talent and hype, I think EWU's D has to be a wildcard in this game and could be the key to an Eags victory. Bison fans probably do not know the improvements our young Defense made from the time we played them through the playoffs. Eags JT Tiulli will be as good of a Nose Tackle the Bison will face this year. Our LB corp returns a salty bunch in Kupp, Calhoun and Kacmarcik and may even be better than last year even with losing Zamora. With a renewed focus on our offensive running game I expect our front 7 to be much more physical and improved against the run. I love our defensive secondary. In my opinion it is the strength of our team right now. They will need to be great against NDSU play action if we need to load the box to control the run game.
DLine - draw
LB's - slight edge NDSU
DB's slight edge EWU

Offensively this will be an interesting game. Gubrud and Stick are two of the premier Qb's in all of FCS football. I love the leadership and fire Gage is showing in Spring. I expect his numbers to be slightly down this year due to the renewed focus on the run but he will continue to produce numerous explosive plays because of his feet and speedy receivers. Losing three of the best receivers in college football is hard to replace. Nsimba Webster has looked like a Shaq Hill this spring. Amazing speed and four 20+ yd touchdown in the first two spring scrimmages make him look like a force to be reckoned with. I expect Splendorio and Grady at 6'4" tall to be big contributors as well. Add in Jayson Williams, Stu Stiles and a host of others and I think teams will find out that our receivers are re-loaded not re-building. The x-factor for the Eags this year could be the TE's. Although they have not shown it yet in spring due to injuries, Soph Jayce Gilder 6'5 245# and Jr Henderson Belk 6'4 240# are two returners who are very capable. If our running game gets going look for these two to bring some good stats to that position out of a renewed play action game. Rb's are solid this year at EWU. It will be a tall task for them to reach Bison RB standards but Soph Antoine Custer, Soph Tamarick Pierce and Jr Sam McPherson are a three headed monster that Coach Best wants to see play a bigger role in the offense. O-Line behind our DB's is another big strength of the Eags. LT Ellison 300#, LG Taylor 325# C Blackburn #295 RG Hunter #305 and RT Schlicting at #300 all have a year of experience under their belt. They were good last year. I expect them to be great this year.

QB slight edge EWU
RB's edge NDSU
Oline slight edge EWU
WR slight edge EWU

Coaching edge NDSU
intangibles/experience draw.

I do not expect a shootout. This will be very close but the Eags are tough to beat at home.

Way to early prediction Eags 23-Bison 21 on a last second field goal.

Well I think you have a descent perspective of this game. We Bison Fans are seeing some new future Freshman Redshirts that are going to be impact 4 year starters for us, so won't surprise me if we have 5 Redshirt freshman starting combined total on both sides. That is highly unusual for us but they are that talented and can't be sitting, so let'em roll.
I saw Chat. and JSU get the FCS kickoff, what a disappointment to give it to them after a Double overtime game last year in Fargo!
Tell your other Eagle Fans thanks for the live webcast info as that is what we will have to do. Not all the Herd will make it but I would expect 1,000 contingency in Bison Green and Gold.

I would like Cooper Kupp to end up in Philly but and the Eagles get him in the 3rd or 4th round but he will be gone by then....

Sept.9th can't come soon enough!
Be Herd, Later JibJab,
BisBisonMan

Kupp will definitely be gone by late in the third. I'm still thinking an early third grab. Late 2nd if he is lucky. Philadelphia is definitely a good landing spot for him, but Philly is going to have to take him in the second or trade up in the third to grab him. The Wentz to Kupp connection would be awesome.

I'm guessing ESPN3 will carry this game as NDSU and the MVFC have a contract with them, but that also might depend on your deals

As for the FCS kickoff game, you won't see NDSU in another one as the staff hates them and already turned down opportunity due to such an early start to the year, and now with the two-a-day ban makes it even worse

Really looking forward to this game. Last year's game in Fargo was a lot of fun to watch. I'll be pulling for the EWU in this one, and not purely because I am a UND fan.

I have a lot of family that went to NDSU and are big time Bison fans, so I just don't have the hatred for the Bison that many UND people do. That being said, they have been the cream of the crop for the past several year, and EWU did a heck of a job last season in Fargo. Go get em this year.

Well last years was a thriller:
* Both Qb's are back
* Receiving corp.significant losses for Eagles, Bison add new talent and bring all back.
* Eagles new coaches means changes and Bison are locked and loaded with a new OC from Montana St. who likes to open up the game which could change how the Bison approach the EWU in this years early season game. Lots of intrigue in this one. Should be a fans delight!
Many new wrinkles for both teams, yet overall NDSU should have a bigger chip on their shoulders and bigger purpose to return to Frisco in January. 21 returning seniors on this team! Big impact in 2017!

* 2 NFL - Defensive draft players coming in 2018 - NDSU Rnd 2 or 3 will be Nic Deluca Middle lineback, and Rnd 4 or 5 will be Defensive Tackle/Nose Guard (Nate Tanguae) both seniors! Defense will be better then last year with Nic Deluca back! Defense will be faster too, so this game will be a test to see how good they are against that EWU QB who is good as well.
I think the Bison will be too much for EWU after 3 qtrs. and they will win this one by 2 TDs 44 - 28.

Still a fun game for all to watch, or yes ESPN 3 on computers will stink, thanks NCAA and not putting this one on local NBC affiliate. Can't stand that!

The Fighting Sioux of ND (yes I said it and always will) will be very good team this year and could go 2 deep into the playoffs or more...... they have it going as well, so Big Sky winner will be UND. Sorry EWU!

There is talk of many Bison Fans taking the Amtrak Train out of Moorhead/Minot to Washington, now that would be one hell of a fun road trip!

Be Herd, Go Bison, tear up the red turf in Washington!

In college sports, the home team's media deal applies. That's why our game with NDSU last year was on ESPN3. The Big Sky deal is with Fox Sports via their Root Sports affiliate. From what I understand, Root Sports has declined the game (I have no explanation for this unless they have a bigger event to cover). Therefore, our secondary contract with SWX network (our local coverage) would have the rights. They broadcast all of their games on a local network and give the rights to eversport.tv for live internet coverage of their broadcast. I'm pretty well certain you can catch the game that way. I don't believe Eastern has any deals with ESPN unless their contact supersedes our own (such as playoff games).

That his great news to hear. From the sound of things on national College football FCS is not going to get top priority of FCS kickoff exclusivity this year, (ESPN making poor business decisions putting games on that don't draw any viewing numbers including FBS Games that are worthless in meaning) so I hope your local TV affiliates pick it up and it goes local network coverage. NBC has the rights of the Bison on all away games so hopefully they can work that out for this game, advantage goes to all fans!
Thanks again and cross your fingers....

Go Bison,
BisBisonman.
