#20 - the hit

I'm a 100% Cougar fan, and I think that hit was disturbing and Deone Bucannon should face some kind of punishment.

Over his 3 year career at WSU, Deone Bucannon has displayed nothing but class on and off the field - Until yesterday. I found myself at a loss. Not because it drew flags, and not because it kept the opposing offense off the field. But because it was so blatantly wrong. Unnecessary. Offensive. Uncharacteristic.

We've had players over the years that I wouldn't have been surprised to behave that way. I had thought that we had gotten rid of the problem. Deone Bucannon never seemed to be that type of player, and when that happened, I was just stunned.

Actions speak louder than words, and even though he is the most experienced player in our secondary, we have to send a message to our kids that this isn't acceptable.

I apologize that one of our players acted like that, and I hope Herd is fine. I don't like the idea of one of our better players being suspended, but there is no excuse and I hope Leach takes action. This isn't what I want people to think of when they think WSU. It's a shame that I'm even here talking about a cheap shot instead of an amazing game. I wish it never happened. Best of luck to Herd and the Eagles this year.

Thank you for the post. It was very classy and decent of you and represents your fan base well. I hope your coach acquits himself with the same class as it would certainly go along way in establishing a reputation of decency in the Pacific NW.

good post Valhalla and I would add that football is a violent sport and this stuff happens, plus the game is played at such a fast pace that its probably not always easy to slow yourself down. I will give the kid the benefit of the doubt but i am not sure that the ncaa/pac-12 will. As for the game its about what I expected it to be and I felt like we'd have a chance down the stretch to take it. We had plenty of opportunities but just couldnt get it done so theres really no excuses.

Good post and I basically agree with everything you mentioned. It was just kinda that it added insult to injury. But above all else I hope that Greg Herd is ok - that's my primary concern.

Do I think Buccanon should be suspended? Yeah, I think the video is incriminating enough.

I too respect your willingness to apologize for a bad situation. I am watching closely for Leaches reaction to this. Will he wait for the league to take action or will he class up himself?
Good luck to the Cougs for the balance of this year.

Count me as one who is very disappointed Leach put that player back in the game at the end. I know you gotta move on, but I do think a suspension is warranted in this case by the Pac-12.

The Pac-12 announced Tuesday that Washington State safety Deone Bucannon will be suspended for the first half of WSU's game at UNLV on Friday

What a piece of shit. This guy is a thug. Just laid an
egregious hit on unlv. He'd better get a full game suspension this time. Dirty. Dirty. Dirty.

What is this dude thinking??? I just watched the most recent hit, not as bad as the hit on herd, but still not legal. He needs to sit for more than a freaking half, starting to root for UNLV just because of him...

Once again, majority of WSU fans saying he did nothing wrong, BS flag, etc etc. :ohno:

I don't know whats worse, #20's dumbass hits or Leach's play calls down the stretch, its almost like he doesn't want to win. He almost let UNLV tie it up by not running out the clock and then going for it on 4th, just plain stupid...

But yeah, fuck that guy. I was VERY vocal of my dislike of his personality and character at the Cougar bar where I watched the game...that could have gotten interesting haha. I wouldn't go as far as to pull for the Rebels, but dude....kid needs to get a clue.

I'm just guessing here, but I think 1-2 games this time suspension since it's all over the internet and back-to-back games for his targeting of the head. Of course, many WSU fans think it was unwarranted and a clean hit, haha, but not all of them. I think this time he's f..cked!
