Its run by google so I'm guessing the team or mascot that gets the most hits wins.

You're exactly right.....The search term with the most hits wins.....You can do the search in such a way as to favor your team.....If you searched for Portland vs Eastern, Eastern would win. If you searched Portland vs Eastern Washington, I bet Portland would win.....Same for PSU vs EWU..
