Has anything changed from last year? I did notice on the basketball schedule all the different promotions for the home games (They forgot Bobble Head night). So, maybe there will be some more people in the stands to watch the Cats this season. I was thoroughly disgusted by the attendance at the last home football game. Was it the Marketign Dept. fault or was it the great citizens of this proud community? The U, Y, and Jazz were all on the road or weren't playing, so was there an incredible yard sale in Roi that was drawing all the citizens to it, instead of to the game? Or did nobody know about it? If you took the Standard Examiner you definitely knew that there was a game. I've got to give it to the Standard credit, they have done a good job promoting Weber this year. I wish though, that on the front section they'd tell the community a couple of days in advance and the day of, any event. On either the right or left side under the title... WSU BBALL or Football game tonight.. Also, I don't know if all the blame should be put upon the shoulders of the Marketing Dept. doesn't some of the blame belong on the shoulders of the Public Relations officials? Isn't it his/her job to get the local media involved with the team? The Standard is just one newspaper among many here along the Wasatch.
Ultimately, Marketing comes down to the ability of an institution to contact the maximum amount of people possible and then to convince as many of those people to invest in that specific institution. Marketing is suppose to use every single avenue available to them to inform and to educate those groups that they are interested in participating in their event or product. University Athletics really should have three main groups that they are interested in drawing to the games: Community (D'uh), Alumni, and Students. From there they should have contacts throughout the institution, i.e. other depts. that can help them: Alumni Relations, Wildcat Club, Recruitment, WSUSA, Athletes themselves, Wildcat Recreation, Hell the WRC, etc, etc, etc.... They are suppose to emphasize on the community, get as much ink as possible, yet be innovative do new things, try things that have been at other schools, look for new ideas and good ideas everywhere and actually do them. While simultaneoulsy, coordinating the other groups in the attempt to get the maximum amount of student/alumni participation. In my estimation... They are failing.
