2008 Schedule

Stang, first of all, we just want to have a winning record, both overall and in conference, and beat Davis. Anything after that for this year would be icing on the cake. I know every team's goal is to win the national championship every year, but realistically, those are our main goals for this year. Again we chose a dozen years ago to protect football and Poly and Davis didn't. Instead of being mad at our AD, you should be mad at yours for not getting your program into a non-patchwork football conference.

HERES THE 2008 SCHEDULE

I've got the schedule for those who want it.

8/30 HUMBODT STATE

9/6 @ COLORADO ST

9/13 SOUTHERN OREGON

9/20 WEBER ST

9/27 PORTLAND ST

10/4 @ NORTHERN ARIZONA

10/18 @ MONTANA

10/25 MONTANA STATE

11/1 @ EASTERN WASHINGTON

11/8 @ UC DAVIS (CAUSEWAY CLASSIC)

11/15 NORTHERN COLORADO

11/22 @ IDAHO STATE

PREDICTED FINISH 8-4

SCHEDULE COMES RIGHT FROM SPERBECK OFFICE ASSISTANT.

I'm glad to see that we scheduled a cupcake 12th game. A winning season would do more for attendance/recruiting than a loss to another FBS opponent or a pounding at the hands of CP.

I'm with you on that. I acutual think we should be playing both San Diego and Cal Poly ever year.
If we are going to play 12 games the scheudle should have looked like this:

SAN DIEGO (FCS -1AA)
@COLORADO ST
CAL POLY(FCS 1-AA)
WEBER ST
PORTLAND ST
@NORTHERN ARIZONA
@MONTANA
MONTANA ST
@E WASHINGTON
@UC DAVIS
NORTHERN COLORADO
@IDAHO ST

YOU COULD ALTERNATE HOME AND AWAY WITH SAN DIEGO AND CAL POLY EACH YEAR JUST AS YOU DO WITH UC DAVIS. THIS WOULD BE A GREAT SCHEDULE EACH YEAR. IT PROBABLY WON'T HAPPEN BECAUSE IT MAKES TO MUCH SENSE.

You gotta walk before you can run.

I would be elated with 8-4 next year.

If we lose to either S. Oregon or Humboldt we won't be going anyway.

8-4 would be great for Sac State and something they could build on. What I meant to say is Sac State could go 8-4 and be left out of the playoffs because of two non counter games on the schedule. If the eight wins included wins over Humbolt and Southern Oregon, Sac would only have 6 division one wins.

I am just disappointed that they scheduled two non counter games when they have Oct. 11th open and Cal Poly offered to come to Sac in 2008 and are looking for a game on Oct. 11th. I think that it would be a no brainer to schedule Cal Poly over Southern Oregon. Cal Poly would have brought probably 4,000 fans and you will lucky to see 100 fans from Southern Oregon. Cal Poly would have even signed a one game contract, they desperately need a 9th FCS game. If I were a Sac State fan I would E-mailing the AD about how disappointed I was that they scheduled Southern Oregon instead of Cal Poly.

I'm delighted that for the fall 2008 season we have scheduled Southern Oregon rather than Cal Poly. This team needs to learn how to win this year. Now that being said, I would be disappointed if we did the same thing in 2009. That is the year we step up, but we need wins and having them at home is even better. Believe me I hope we play Cal Poly every year after this year, but I'm not going to write the AD about this season. Give us a year to grow, mature, recruit and then we can likely give CP a competitive game, but it won't be this year. As for the playoffs this year? Please, its a bit premature for anyone to reasonably believe it will happen in 2008. We have a lot of starters gone from the defensive DL, not to mention two four year starters at safety, no proven receivers and a suspect kicking game. We have a lot of work to do. We will be very good at LB and RB positions, but QB still is a work in progress as is the OL and especially the DL. Sperbeck is doing the right thing this year and so is the AD.

When was the last time Hornets had a 12 game season? Even with Hum and Sou,the extra game is awsome. Another opportunity for a win. Great job Sperbeck! If we go 8-4 or better, schedule will change with stronger opponents as the program gets stronger. Playoffs this year??? It's going to be exciting!!

I wouldn’t normally be for playing a pair of D2/NAIA class games in a season, but it does seem to make sense this year. Focus on building a positive feel around the program in ‘08 with the opening of Broad and what should be a better W-L record. That should carry in to progressively more aggressive schedules each year that must include CP. That game should become as important as the Causeway.

The playoffs aren’t even on my radar for ‘08; however, a team that builds on the promise of ’07 and notches a few more wins definitely is. I feel very, very good that Sperbeck is head coach, but he’s not the second coming of Paul Bryant. The program’s been down for quite a while and things will take a couple years. Crawl, walk, run.

I have to agree.
I think its a very good schedule to start building on.
WELL DONE coaching staff.
The big sky will be tough this coming year.
