2011-2012 Starting Lineup

It is NEVER too early to start talking 2011-12 Weber Basketball.

What is everyone's take on the starting lineup next season? Here's mine:

PG - Damian Lillard
SG - Scott Bamforth
SF - Kyle Bullinger
PF - Darin Mahoney
C - Kyle Tresnak

I think Mook could very well take Mahoney or Tresnak's spot in due time...but our 1, 2 and 3 are pretty secure. Excited to see how much playing time Gelaun and Shai get as well.

Backups:

PG - Richardson, Wheelwright
SG - Porter, Davis, Wheelwright, Fields
SF - Porter, Fulton, Fields
PF - Fulton, Mook
C - Mook, Hajek

Lillard
Wheelwright
Bamforth
Bullinger
Tresnak

Off the bench:

Feilds/Richardson
Brown
Porter
Otis/Fulton
Hajek/Mahoney

Interesting Oldrunner, but I don't think the coaches will want to mess up Bullinger coming off his great season by moving him to the 4.....

1 Lillard
2 Bamforth
3 Bullinger
4 Otis
5 Hajek

Anybody think there is any chance we sign a Juco wing this spring?

Anybody know if Bamforth will have surgery? Will he just need to rest his shoulder for a couple months to fully heal?

I totally agree with this lineup.

Skeeter...if Weber signs someone this spring it will be a JUCO wing. But I don't think we will sign anyone unless someone leaves. Weber does have Porter and Davis; I have a feeling that Feilds is the guy to fill that need. He is, perhaps, the most prepared for the speed of college ball.

Yes, Bamforth needs to have surgery. It's going to happen right away.

i agree with tal on the lineup. Mo at the 5 and mook at the 4. its pretty sweet to think we will have 2 6ft10+ players off the bench next year. im excited

I think I am with Catcat here.

I have heard really good things about Otis and believe he will start.

And if you think there is no love for Mahoney, I see him as the key to next years team. We will obviously get fantastic guard play with a deep bench backing up two stars. But it is at 4 and 5 that we will be tested. We will really rely on Mahoney's interior defense next year. To give us a better bench I can see Tresnak starting at 5, with Mahoney subbing in at both 4 and 5. Being so established at 1 through 3, Mahoneys play at 4 and 5 will be the big difference maker.

You have convinced me Mr Pirate. I like your rotation with the bigs. However, I think Hajek will get some time as well. One, or possibly two, of these incoming guards will get significant playing time. I still think that two players will redshirt, I just don't know who it might be. It may come down to injuries in the preseason or development over the summer. There is also the chance that one or two of the kids on this years team would transfer to a smaller school to get more playing time. If that happens, it will not be due to citizenship, accademics or any such thing. All of these kids are good, hard working kids. I think that it is quite obvious that one or two of these kids will never play at WSU, but could probably be starters at smaller schools, and they are good kids, good team mates, and good students. Where we are the thinest is at the 3 spot. If we could find someone like K Bull, or better, I think we would consider bringing them in. The alternative to that will be to use our depth at guard to back up in that spot.

My opinion as of right now for the starting line is
PG-Lillard/Bamforth
SG-Bamforth/Lillard
SF-K-Bull
PF-(Brian) Mahoney
C-Tres
Where these guys already have years of experience of the college game, they will come in and start the season as the starters. I know Mook did play down at SMU and have some experience, but it is a different offense he is playing with. By the end of the year he could be starting but as of know he will be a key player off the bench.

First of all, I want to thank and congratulate this team. They were expected to win it all, and almost did just that despite major problems with injuries all year. Losing D-Lill and then having the rest of the group suffer through the season at less than 100% is a testament to great coaching and the kind of guys playing for Weber.

Next year promises to be a special year for the Wildcats. While we lose some great players in Hughey and Morris, we will have some great players back and they will be even better than in previous years. I don't know exactly which players will start, but I do know that the guys we have coming back will have a legitimate chance of doing some serious damage in the Sky and hopefully in post-season next year.

I think we need an athletic JC Wing if we want to be dangerous in the post season next year. Frank Session w/out the attitude would be perfect. Hopefully we'll have more of an inside game next year with an improving Hajek/Tresnak and Otis/Fulton. Having Lillard and Bamforth and even Bullinger on the floor is really going going to open things up, hopefully in the paint as well.

We do need an athletic wing...really that is the only part of the puzzle missing, but I have a feeling that the coaching staff has a lot of faith in Fields. Also, maybe Porter will develop into that wing that Weber really needs. Looking at the Sky for 2011-2012...

PG: A+ (Lillard, Bamforth, Richardson, and Wheelright all can play the point...three of the four have experience and know how to run the sets, three out of the four have proven they can handle the position and lead the team; Wheelright, i'm hoping, is going to be a special player for the Cats)

SG: A+ (Lillard, Bamforth, Wheelright, Fields, Brown...Lillard and Bamforth two 1st teamers and future Big Sky/Weber State 3pt leaders!!! Yeah, thats all I need to say.)

SF: B+ (Bullinger...he along merits an A, but there isn't a lot of experience behind him. Yes, Porter and Davis played, but will they both be back? Yes, Fields has the height and ability to play the 3, but I think he is better suited at the 2, and he could play the 1 for the Cats, he could be on of the most versatel players joining the Cats in sometime.)

PF: A- (Mahoney, Fulton, Mook, Hajek or Tresnak...if Hajek and Tres are playing at the same time...two 6-10ers in the game at once for Weber!!)

C: B- (not a lot of experience and Mahoney is undersized and isn't the greatest offensive player. Granted, Mahoney, if he is hitting his outside shoots can really open up the floor for the Cats, but he wasn't hitting them this year with consistency, which is what the Cats need him to be able to do. However, I really can see this becoming one of the strongest positions for the Cats. Tresnak knows what to expect from the College game, and understands what he needs to do. He is a really smart kid and will leave being one of our better centers; playing against another 6-10 everyday kinda helps a big develop.)

I'll say it again...Rahe has, on paper, one of the best classes in Weber State history joining an already experienced and proven team next fall. Our incoming recruiting class is something else.

If Mook can get his free throw % up to 70, and develop a 10 to 15 foot jump shot, there is no question that he can be a starter. For a guy that doesn't have great hops, he is a beast around the bucket. He will get fouled a lot. Also, I think his post defence is good. Offensively, Fulton has the edge. On the other end of the floor, I think Mook has it. Then you throw Mahoney into the mix, and I think we are solid at the 4.
