2011 Roster

Hmmmm, looks like some of our questions have been answered. And some surprises!

No. Name Pos. Ht. Wt. Cl. Exp. Hometown/Previous School
5 Curtis Shaw RB 5-11 195 Sr. 1V Stockton, Calif./Washington - He's back!
7 Kyle Monson DB 5-6 175 Sr. 1V Saugus, Calif./Grossmont JC - He's back...
58 Daniel Burgess LB 6-2 230 Jr. TR Napa, Calif./New Mexico State - New FBS drop-down?
82 Kenonte Howard WR 6-3 200 So. TR Fairfield, Calif./New Mexico State - New FBS drop-down?
##Jake Gerringer QB 6-1 190 Fr. HS Camarillo, Calif./Newbury Park HS - Still on the roster! No number though (gray shirting?)

Also, a couple new true frosh QBs and Reed/Hendershott do indeed return!

Gerringer or the other players without or with duplicate numbers don't mean much now. This is just a list of players reporting to camp in two weeks. There are alot of walk-ons and some returners listed that may or may not be around after camp finishes.

One thing I did notice was that they only listed one of the PAyne brothers that they signed to a LOI in Feb...Just wondering what happened? Anyone in the Know?

There are actually a few names that signed LOI but are not on the list.

Payne (Anthony)
Albert
Gillies
Jaeger
Taliuli

I don't see LT John Taylor (#50) on the roster this year. I know he dropped a lot of weight doing martial arts this winter and spring and I'm wondering if he had trouble getting it back on. Too bad to lose him because he was solid at both center and tackle.

Wow, no John Taylor would be a huge loss for the Hornets. I hope he's around and this is just an oversight of some kind!

We do have a new JT... 56 John Taylor DL 6-3 245 Fr. HS Colton, Calif./Colton HS

That’s too bad that he left. He had a lot of experience that would have helped the OL. The silver lining in this is there are a lot of young and big linemen on the roster who will now see playing time. Hopefully a couple of them step up this season and fill the voids.

Sorry his full name is Jacoby Carter...#21...I'm pretty sure he was the one mentioned. I hope i am wrong, don't want any of our players banged up.

I spoke to coach about McKeon getting a medical redshirt, but found out that the NCAA only allows that if it's the same injury or result of the same injury...ie; redshirt last year because of Right knee, then injury the same knee in camp this year. In McKeon's case it was a different injury, so he may loose his Jr year. (That really sucks)...I think they can still petition for it, but likely won't be granted.

Got it. Jacoby Carter will most likely redshirt this year if he is too banged up to play.

Thanks for the medical redshirt info too. I didn't know it had to be the same injury.

Can he also 're-injure' his same injury?

Yes if a player re-injures a previous injury...

Example:

Bob Smith breaks his right arm in Fall camp in 2010, so he redshirts to rehab. This year in camp he breaks the same arm, then he could get a medical redshirt.

At least this was the way it was explained to me from the coaches...which I wasn't aware off...I thought any injury could be used as medical redshirt...learn something new everyday

I was alluding that perhaps his old injury could start hurting again and he would need a RS for that prexisting injury.

What new injury?? wink, wink
