2011 Schedule

Has anyone seen how things are going to shake out with the addition of UCFE and Cow Poly? I haven't seen anything yet.

Even if it's not official, I think it would be easiest to think of the league in terms of East and West divisions. One plays everyone in their base division and enough schools on a rotating basis in the other division to fill out an 8-game schedule (9 games during years when we're allowed 12). In terms of OOC, I'm still of the opinion that a balanced FBS/D-II/peer FCS (in THAT order) can challenge us yet not destroy us in terms of record at playoff time. In terms of the FBS and peer FCS, I'd like to get some variety if we can.

How about something like this for a PROPOSED schedule?

9/3 Sac @ San Jose State
9/10 Humboldt State @ Sac
9/17 Sac @ Grambling State
9/24 Montana @ Sac
10/1 Sac @ Northern Arizona
10/8 BYE
10/15 Sac @ Weber State
10/22 Idaho State @ Sac (HC)
10/29 Eastern Washington @ Sac
11/5 Sac @ Cal Poly
11/12 Sac @ Portland State
11/19 UC Davis @ Sac

Is this completely horrible? Can it work as is or with some tweaking?

Thanks.

Sac State will never play at Grambling (the only DI school to offer me a schollie, lol). Sorry!

Then lets get Grambling and their marching band to come out here! We'd certainly fill the stadium

I'd rather not fill our stadium with a gimmick.

Why would we travel to Grambling of all teams? I sometimes wonder about you.

Won't see SJSU on the schedule either, they can't pay much. We only play FBS teams that pay us the highest fee (which is why we get slaughtered every year. Unlike davis and poly who will play any FBS they feel they can beat).

If we are going to play a FBS team, lets play one with a remote shot of winning.

Poly played Fresno this year, Wisconsin two years ago...Davis played Boise and Fresno last season, Cal this year, and head to Arizona State and Hawaii next year. So, yep, 'any team they think they can beat'

San Jose doesn't pay, but it doesn't cost much since its local, and it IS winnable!

Yes, I was picking teams out of thin air. But do we really want go straight to CAA? I'd love to play Liberty. Our "normal" East Coast hookup gave up the ghost. All I really care for in that spot is a peer OOC. On a rare occasion, schools schedule a conference foe that doesn't count. That sounds boring to me.

If both CP and "the farm extension" are scheduled, that will leave room for only one other OOC game...and it will most likely be a money game against a MWC or Pac 10 team. It wouldn't be until 2012 with the new conference alignment when more room on the schedule is open for OOC teams.

Dr. Wanless said during Coach Sperbeck's first year (when we played Fresno State and New Mexico), that he only wanted to play one FBS game per year. I would like to see San Jose State, I don't think we ever played them and we would have a great shot at beating them. Does anyone know the FBS game next year? I thought it was our turn to play Fresno, but it dosen't look like we are on their schedule. I think we play Arizona State in 2012. I would like to see Poly on the schedule again now that they are in the BSC, hopefully
we can host alternate years with davis like we used to.

I can not find Sac State on any FBS schedules for 2011. Cal however has Sept 3rd and 10th open, it would be sweet to pick Cal up and they probably would pay about $300,00. Cal will play their home games next season at AT&T Park in SF while Memorial Stadium is rebuilt.

There has been a bit of a trend and discussions around the country that the body bag bowls should be played against a in state FBS school. This because many want the monies payed out to stay in that state.

I think some states have a law that FBS schools must give in-state FCS teams first dibs on a payday game. I think AZ has this and maybe OR. This would work in CA as there are 5 state funded FBS schools and 3 state funded FSC schools. It could even go a step further and mandate that FCS play down games have to give D-II (Humboldt State) first dibs. It makes sense as it would keep the tax dollars in state plus it would give the fan base a game within reasonable travel distance.

Could be. Some states don't have such a law (read: Ohio). In such cases, it's up to the institutions involved. Ohio State was notorious for refusing to play in-state teams on ANY level until Jim Tressel was pulled out of Youngstown State. Since then, they've been MUCH more accommodating.

I thought that I heard Dr. Wanless said during the half of the ISU game that we just signed with Oregon State for next year's FBS game
Makes sense, I checked their site (last updated 11/6) and they do have a TBA home date for Sept 3
http://oregonstate.scout.com/2/1019100.html . I would rather have Cal but our basketball won up there so maybe football can too! Should be a fun road trip to beautiful Corvallis!

Oregon State has a history of losing to teams from Superior California.

And we are about as "Superior" as it gets! I know that Oregon State was expected to do well this year and has underperformed. I don't know what their returning roster looks like but next season we will be loaded so we should have a good shot to win it!
