2012 Big Sky position rankings: Defensive line
Billings Gazette
5. TREVOR PLETCHER, SR., WEBER STATE 2011: 36 tkl, 10 tfl, 6.5 sacks, 3 hurries, 2 ff. THE BUZZ FOR 2012: You already saw Pletcher's name in our Top 10 list of special teams players heading into the new season, but from his defensive end spot is where he truly shines. Pletcher needs four sacks to move into the Top 10 of Weber State's all-time list, and he should have no trouble getting there in 2012. Pletcher has a really good motor, and it was on display last year when he tied a school record with four sacks in a game in a victory over Idaho State. Pletcher was voted one of four team captains for the new year, and he'll be up to the leadership role. Just watch him work on the field.

I'm glad that Pletcher is getting some attention. He deserves it. He is a blue collar player who comes to work everyday and does his absolute best. Good for him!! He will end the season a lot higher too.

Talking about DLineman, can someone, maybe you semsam dispel some rumours I heard. I heard that Eastman is probably off the team, that Malone Fiso and Sifa Heimuli have left the team (both really good guys), and that Darchon Taggart and Barrington Collins were both cut.

If Eastman, is in fact gone, then the starting line would be: Pletcher DE, White DT, Myers DT, Mullarky/Washington DE. Losing Eastman and Fiso would be awful. I did hear that Levale might try to come back though.

Oh, on a side note, Veteson Sauni (cut after spring ball by lucifer) will be walking on at Hawaii and that Eric Sufford will be playing at Huston (I don't know how accurate that one is).

Really!? I'm really hoping these are just rumors. Because if this shiz keeps up there won't be enough players left to field a team. This could be a very long and difficult season.

There is a fairly recently updated roster (good job Paul) on the website right now. Eastman is still on it and so is Malone Fiso. Sifa Heimuli has in fact left the team. However, I don't fault him, he felt he had to focus on other priorities, which is just fine. He will be missed though. Yes, Taggar and Collins were both cut by Smith, but were pretty lazy though, from what I heard.

I will not go into details but unfortunately Eastman is no longer a member of the football team. Please respect his right to privacy! Nobody needs to know why and they need to respect his privacy!

You are absolutely right, to a point. Regardless of the reasons, he is at a state school, where he was receiving a scholarship being funded by a mixture of state money and donations. If a citizen of the state wants to know how his/her taxes are being utilized they have a right to know. Personally, I think it is necessary to say that he wasn't kicked off the team, but rather was dismissed due to his actions.

I will miss the beast blowing up the OL. Unfortunately he was never truly healthy and we never saw his full potential.

I enjoy lurking on this board and listening to everyone's insights. My son is Shane Oliverson. He will be a D-Lineman, probably a tackle. He has gained some respect in the weight room and on the field from the coaches, and his team mates. According to his position coach, he has a great motor, work ethic, and as of this morning, the biggest power clean on the team. He told me about some of the D-Line guys who were leaving from the line with a bit of concern. Here's his deal, he weights 250. With the current set up at Weber, without a training table, without a cafeteria with a meal plan, It's been difficult for him to gain weight. I think with 30 or forty more good pounds, and the corresponding strength that would come with that weight gain, he could be a very serviceable to possibly outstanding D lineman. Any suggestions and help would be welcomed from you guys who have been through the wars. We are helping him with food, appliances to cook it, and protien and weight gain supplements.

Actually - this has always been an issue. New guys will get a break this year because I think they're going into the new dorm that will have a cafeteria that I also think will be open most of the day and even night.
Should beat the heck out of having to get every meal at a 'fast food' place in SU and, as I recall, it wasn't even open on weekends! Off campus wasn't that much better because after paying rent, electric, etc., not much left from the monthly money for food. Not complaining because the non-scholarship folks didn't even get that. Student loans are always an option. For weight gain, the old school way, I've seen a lot of guys gain pretty good weight scarfing spaghetti, tortellini, pizza, canned tuna chicken or salmon, peanut butter or hardboiled eggs before they went to bed. Really not junk food, and pretty cheap and easy - but it actually gets tough to force yourself to eat that stuff every night!

That isn't a terrible weight. He should be alright, as long as he is strong and agile. Yes, 10-15 more pounds would be a lot better, but I'm sure at 250, with speed and strength he should be alright. Connor Myers was only in the 250-265 zone last year and did alright. Not that it matters now, but as a Freshman, the Beast was only in the low 260s.
