2012 Bracketbuster

The selections have been announced. Sac gets a home game and an area pick, technically playing up (though that might be somewhat debatable). Just for comparison's sake, the unmentionable school gets the shaft (some would say well deserved given the way their season has gone). The Manure Pile gets a hoops preview of a Big Sky venue.

San Jose State (7-15, 0-7 WAC) @ Sac State (6-14, 1-8 Big Sky)
Idaho State (7-14, 5-4 Big Sky) @ UOP (7-13, 3-5 Big West)
UC Davis (1-18, 0-8 Big West) @ NAU (5-16, 1-8 Big Sky)
St. Mary's (21-2, 10-0 WCC) @ Murray State (21-0, 9-0 Ohio Valley)
Nevada (18-3, 17-0 WAC) @ Iona (17-5, 9-2 Metro Atlantic)

I've included a slightly expanded area for comparison. But for just the Sac-Joaquin area schools, I think the one with the best chance at a win just might be the Hornets. If the records are any indicator, the two teams are relatively evenly matched. BB looks to be a trap game for UOP (if any game can be called a trap for a team doomed to a losing record) given ISU's current hot streak (won 4 of the last five conference games, including an upset of 16-4 BBQ U). Davis is probably going to go down HARD.

Let's go, Hornets! Get your stingers up!

Here is the BSC slate including the match-ups already posted by SH.

Big Sky Conference BracketBuster Games
  • UT-Arlington at Weber State (ESPN3) 5 p.m. PT
    Hawai'i at Montana
San Jose State at Sacramento State
    Cal Poly at Northern Colorado
    UC Davis at Northern Arizona
Montana State at Cal State Fullerton
    Eastern Washington at UC Irvine
    Portland State at Idaho
    Idaho State at Pacific

I like this in that it guarantees a regional game next year. Granted both teams suck, but it would be interesting to see how many people show up to this one. :twocents:

In a sense, though, this gets us past the snooty people at San Jose who don't think Sac's worth traveling to for ANY sport save gymnastics. They're FORCED to come here. Whatever one thinks of UOP, they're at least willing to do the 2-year home-and-home on occasion, and they USUALLY play at a higher level than SJSU. (This year, of course, and perhaps the next couple, Sac gets bragging rights for best team in the area not in the Pac-12.)

Their gym is a larger version of The Nest. They are use to playing in a crappy gym for home games so I can understand why they wouldn't agree to play in another one in an OOC game.
