@ Fresno State- L (even in a down year, The Bulldogs beat us. It might be close) FSU leads series 3-0, last game 2005 in Fresno Fresno won 55-17 :ohno:

@ BYU- L (Just as long as we dont lose by more than 30) BYU leads series 2-0, last game 1979 in Provo BYU won 48-3

McNeese State- W (Our first game vs a team not of the former Great West since 2005 when St. Mary's still had an FCS football team  ) Series tied at 1-1, Last game 1992 In Ogden MSU won 23-22 (we won first game in Lake Charles, LA the year before)

Eastern Washington- W (the Eagles are coming back loaded, but I think this time we nip them at home) Eastern Leads series 16-14. Last game 2011in Cheney Eagles won 27-21.

@ UC Davis- W (The Aggies are in rebuilding mode more so than ourselves) Series tied at 1-1 Last game 2010 in Ogden Weber won 20-9.

Cal Poly- W/L (In what could be our hardest conf game, I think Weber comes out on top, but this could go both ways). Weber leads series 5-3 last game 2009 Ogden Weber won 47-14.

@ Sacramento State- W (A tough road game, but I think we escape Sacramento with a win) Weber leads series 11-5 last game 2011 Weber won 49-17

@ Southern Utah- L (toughest conf road game by far, I think SUU gets us again) Weber leads series 14-4 last game 2011 Ogden SUU won 35-28.

Montana- W (The Griz losing coaches, players and Athletic Directors will be too much for them this year) Griz lead series 38-13  Last game 2011 Missoula Griz won 45-10

Northern Colorado- W (The Bears might be better than they were last year, but it wont matter) Weber leads series 6-0 Last Game 2011 Greeley Weber won 45-21.

@ Idaho State- W (The Bengals might be pretty decent this year, but I still think they are another 2 years away from taking the leap from Cellar dwellar to Competitive). Weber leads series 37-14  Last game 2011 Ogden Weber won 39-12.

8-3 with losses to BYU,FSU and SUU and playoff bound

or

7-4 with losses to BYU, FSU, SUU and CPoly and playoff bound

Seriously, if Weber cant make the playoffs this year with this schedule something is wrong.

First and foremost, Weber is one of the best teams in the Sky, and with that being said, should be among the top contenders for the conference crown and a playoff seed.

Next, I'm sad that the Bobcats aren't on our schedule, for the first time in almost 50 years (same with NAU), but thats life.

Third, I don't see how Weber loses to SUU. Sorenson is back, but he doesn't have the weapons around him that he had last year. SUU's best chance to get into the playoffs was last year and they didn't make it. Weber should have won that game.

Finally, Weber has a great home slate this year. Only Northern Colorado is a bit of a let down. There should be nice crowds for each game.

Fresno State...Weber loses, but it is closer than people think. Fresno isn't as good as they've been, new coach, new philosophy, rebuilding, and Weber is brining back a lot of personnel. L

BYU...Could be an absolute beat down. I definitely hope not, but the game is in Provo. L

McNeese... W... However, we shouldn't overlook the Cowboys. They are getting stronger and have a pretty good team coming back. Granted, the Southland hasn't been as strong as the Sky in recent years, but it is definitely improving. Southland is a strong conference with a great deal of tradition. Oh Wildcat...Weber played William and Mary a couple years back. LOL

Eastern...W...I'm sick of losing crap games to the Eagles. For some reason Weber never plays a full game against EWU. If they play four quarters Weber wins. If not. Well...look at the past two seasons and 08.

Davis...could be interesting playing on their field. They played the Cats pretty tough at our place and can really bring it defensively. If Weber wins it won't be by a lot. This will be a defensive battle. I'm hoping for a W though.

Cal Poly...HUGE Game for the Cats. Weber wins this one it could put Weber on track to capture the Sky. A loss at home would put the Cats back. I'm hoping for the first. Love watching Poly's offense.

Sac...I'm thinking Weber wins this game. It'll be somewhat close, but Sac is rebuilding. They will be down next year.

SUU...Weber has to win this game, if they want to win the Sky. Can't lose two years in a row to SUU either.

Montana...I'm with catcat on this one. Grizz haven't won in Ogden in since 06 and won't get another chance till 2015. W

Northern C. W...the Cubbies will be better and showed improvements at the end of last season, but they have a long way to go. Maybe they will surprise me and this will be a huge game. Who knows.

ISU... W last game of season in Poky? I'm hoping for 08 all over again. A big Weber State win in front of a partisan crowd and the Big Sky Championship trophy presented to John L. and boys after the final whistle.

WOW!

That all sounds really great to me. Hope that it all comes true. I think we need to remember that we are revamping, with a new staff. We really don't know what to expect other than effort and the enthusiasm that we are seeing in the program this spring. I would love to see John L produce a championship right out of the gate, but, realistically, it could take a few years.

Anyway you look at it, it's going to be a fun year. :twocents:

Im talking regular season OOC games, playoffs dont count cause we cant schedule those teams. We played SMC in 1995 and SMC again in 2003, those were our last OOC games vs teams not of the former Great West Conference, North Dakota State was in the Great West when we got the crap beat out of us both times by them.

Also I agree, Im also sad to not see some familiar faces on the Schedule (MSU,NAU,PSU) :-(

I agree that a new staff will have new wrinkles. Looking at the schedule it's always a shot in the dark but I feel 8-3 is very, very doable, and we should shoot for higher. With Coach Smith, the real players will evolve quickly and it's all about getting the W....period.

Spring ball has been tough, summer should be productive and Fresno State will be here quicker than we think. I just want to see a complete game from a complete team, start to finish.

GO CATS!!!!

I also feel 8 & 3 is doable even with the new coaching staff and system. We will have a much more focused discipline factor in my opinion.

Here's to dejavu all over again!

Besides the two FBS road games :ohno:, I really think this is a very favorable schedule. We get the conference's best teams at home (Poly, EWash, and UM), or don't play them at all (MSU and PSU). At best we go 10-1 or 9-2. At worst we go 6-5 or 5-6.

I cant wait for the WSU vs ISU game. I think this is going to be a good game. 28 Jan 2012 all over again ISU by 2 when ISU hits a last second field goal for the W.
Weber will finish 4th or higher in the BSC.

GO Bengals Beat Weber

Looking more like a 3-8 year instead of a 8-3 year.

WOW your really think Smith was a +5 win coach. I think we all need to back off the cliff and see what happens. It's not like all of our players are leaving with Smith too.

If anything, this should motivate the players even more. As someone else posted, the players did not like Smith - they tolerated him because they had no choice in the matter - other than to leave the program when he was hired, as some did. He would have lost the team fairly quickly. So, this could actually turn out to be a very good thing - even giving Bovee a 'do-over' to pick a coach who didn't sneak out on his team before, isn't a blowhard, and really appreciates the chance that the Weber job is - the chance to build a national power - not just a place to go retire. Or, have the new coach, whoever it is, take control and prove that he is the guy to take Weber to national prominence - not just because he has had a 'name' at some other big school. There might have been a bit more discipline during the last 4 months, but there is no reason to believe that whoever takes over won't keep that same discipline. If the team was going to be 8-3 before, there's no reason to believe it won't be 8-3 now or, even better than that.

Okay...so some preseason rankings have come out. NOthing too official yet, but already its starting to look like one of the toughest schedules in Weber State history. YIKES!!
