Better than you might expect, with a new QB and uncertain defense. I'd guess it reflects respect of Burton by the coaches and media as much as anything else.

If I were to create a poll, I think it would be incumbent to assign last year's champion the number one spot with the runner-up being given the number two spot. I put very little stock in big sky polls as they are inherently biased toward the "Big Sky State" members. I think this renders them an unfair psychological advantage and I believe a wise move would be for the other conference members to insist upon a revised name to eliminate this bias -- perhaps the Big Western Sky or, even better, the Great Western Sky Conference. I prefer the latter as it seems like it is remembering of native American tribes and feels kind of spiritual. In the FCS, our conference pretty much IS the conference of the western states.

Viable challengers Weber State, Northern Arizona & Eastern Washington would do well to not bow down to Montana and Montana State and, instead, defeat them.

I was tempted to order his 175 page FCS guide since I read through his FBS guide last weekend. I'm thinking I'll pass.

One think you can always count on is his guide is that Phil Steele is a really, really big fan of Phil Steele.

How in the hell can he have NAU at 14th? They're going to start the year off at 0-2 with two FBS games?
