2013 Fall Transfers

Found out from my son that QA Marcus McDade from Fresno St is likely transfering to Sac State.

I personally know the player so I won't go into to much detail as I don't want to sound prejudice one way or the other. Over all should be a Great Get for Sac State.

Couple of stats:

6'3" 200 - Was an Elite 11 QB coming out of HS. VERY strong arm. I once saw him throw a ball 70+ yards in the air in a HS game. During his Sr year I beleive had a 24/4 TD/Int ratio and completed well over 60% of his passes.

Look forward to adding depth to QB spot. I don't see him beating out Safron, as he is not as agile, but do see us now having solid depth at QB should an injury or lack of production occur. :thumb:

Wow, he would be a great add! Here's his Scout.com description coming out of high school...

"Arguably has the strongest arm of any quarterback in the West in the 2010 class. Has a huge upside after starting just one year at varsity. Can make throws some NFL quarterbacks can’t. Tends to struggle reading defenses due to his inexperience. Accuracy is questionable as he learns to control his arm strength."

Good to have some added depth at QB, too bad he came on after spring camp though. I’m assuming this means Magleby is done, I was hoping he missed spring camp due to baseball.

  • (#12) Safron, RJR – marginal improvement during spring camp, has 2 years left.
McDade, RSO – per the FSU game notes he was a redshirt freshman last season, has 3 years left.
(#18) Sorensen, RFR– looked like a deer stuck in the headlights at spring camp, 4 years left.
Vercher, FR – my guess is he redshirts this season.

Sets up???

2013- Safron/McDade
2014- Safron/McDade
2015- McDade/Vercher
2016- Vercher/?
2017- Vercher/?

Of course injuries and performance are likely to impact this, but you can see what the "plan" might be...

I wish Sperbeck and Peterson had taken a look at Mt SAC's QB, Ted Landers. I saw him back up Nick Montana and it should have been the other way around. From what I saw of Landers, he would have fit Peterson's no-huddle spread offense very nicely. He's quick, efficient and can throw on the run. With that said, it's good to know that McDade is on his way to Sac.

I just found out today that Rocklin High School standout QB, Jimmy Laughrea, left Boise State and transferred to the UC Dungpile. I'd be very disappointed to find out that Sperbeck didn't recruit him because of Safron and Vercher. While Vercher is an intriguing talent that may develop, Safron can't hold a candle to Laughrea. I sure hope this was a case of Laughrea not giving the Hornets the time of day rather than Sperbeck showing little to no interest ..... We sure could have used a kid with the arm and athleticism of Laughrea.

I think Sperbeck has good rapport with Bosie State. Like his son.
