2013 Schedule

Looks like you got that one right, SD. This from SOU website:

ASHLAND -- The Southern Oregon football program released its 2013 schedule Friday as the Raiders look to defend their 2012 Frontier Conference Championship in the fall.

Southern Oregon, which finished the season ranked fifth in the final NAIA poll after falling in overtime to No. 3 Morningside in the NAIA Quarterfinals, will open the season at home for the second consecutive season. The Raiders will host Rocky Mountain College in a Frontier Conference game on Aug. 31. That game will be the second annual Kickoff Classic for SOU, with site and game time still undetermined. Last season, the Raiders hosted Montana-Western at Medford's Spiegelberg Stadium in the Kickoff Classic.

The Raiders will follow the season opener with four consecutive road games. They will visit Montana-Western on Sept. 7 before taking a one-week break from conference competition to visit Sacramento State on Sept. 14. Southern Oregon will travel to La Grande to take on cross-state rival Eastern Oregon on Sept. 21 before closing out the month on Sept. 28 at Dickinson State.

I'm hearing southern Oregon scheduled week 3
Pretty much schedules us out of the playoffs if true. :ohno:

I don't agree with that. Playing another PAC12 school and a 11-2 SJSU squad will even out SOU....if we beat SOU.

The playoffs expand next year don't they, so there will be more slots available and if we take the crown it won't matter. We were a few points and bone-headed plays away last year. Montana is playing SE Western State Oklahoma University A&M at Eastern Panhandle State Oklahoma.

UM wouldn't have scheduled that game if they knew it would hinder their chance of regaining the playoffs. A drop in football attendance for them could really hurt.

Nice catch, GCM.

By that set-up, the bogus in-conference non-conference game is SUU. I don't like that concept, but we're not in a financial position to quibble with that short of a second D-II or another bodybag game. Heck, if we pull off another Pac-12 upset, I see us having problems getting a future money game.

The schedule doesn't yet indicate a homecoming game, and there's not one that fits the traditional definition (roughly mid-season, and a patsie following at least two road games or a road game and a bye). But UNC comes close. And our bye comes at a great place for once: after that horrendous trip to North Dakota and right before the Montana game (which is at home). At least we're not making the mistake of scheduling the defending Big Sky champs as homecoming again....

That D-II game will cripple us despite the rosy 8-3 record I foresee. I still can't believe we expected 7-4 records to get an at-large in the expando-playoffs before they happened, but once they DID hit, we STILL had to have 8-3 or better. Anyways, I see us splitting the FBS games (if we pull the Pac-12 upset special again, I think we'll be 2-0), and not losing again until the Montana game (MAYBE), but those last few games will be tough. I think that if we sweep the FBS games, we're in (barring an unforseen misstep against SOU). Losing the D-II game will kill the playoffs altogether unless we find a way to win league. We have an advantage there in that we do not face EWU and MSU, but Montana, Cal Poly, and Davis (as the rivalry game) will have a HUGE say in our post-season chances REGARDLESS of how well we open the season.

Good find GCM. I retract my discontent with a D2 game only because we have 12 games scheduled, 11 of which are D1 and 6 home games in total. I was hoping Sperbeck would take advantage of the 12 game option and he did.

Week 1 - 8/29/2013: at San Jose State (San Jose, Calif.) - Probable regional TV broadcast Comcast

Week 2 - 9/5/2013: at Arizona State (Tempe, Ariz.) - Likely regional TV broadcast on ESPN/P12N

Week 3 - 9/14/2013: SOUTHERN OREGON (Hornet Stadium)

Week 4 - 9/21/2013: SOUTHERN UTAH (Hornet Stadium)

Week 5 - 9/28/2013: at Weber State* (Ogden, Utah)

Week 6 - 10/5/2013: NORTHERN COLORADO* (Hornet Stadium)

Week 7 - 10/12/2013: NORTHERN ARIZONA* (Hornet Stadium) - Likely regional TV broadcast on FSN

Week 8 - 10/19/2013: at North Dakota* (Grand Forks, N.D.) - Likely regional TV broadcast on FSN

Week 9 - Bye

Week 10 - 11/2/2013: MONTANA* (Hornet Stadium) - Likely Root Sports broadcast

Week 11 - 11/9/2013: at Cal Poly* (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) - Probable regional TV broadcast on a SLO channel

Week 12 - 11/16/2013: at Portland State* (Portland, Ore.)

Week 13 - 11/23/2013: farm extension* (Hornet Stadium) - Likely regional TV broadcast on Comcast

*BSC Game

So possibly up to 7 TV games (including all home games and non-Montana BSC games on BSTV) is a pretty good haul and some good exposure for the program. The bye is in the later half of the season and the first 2 games are Thursday nights. A good home-road balance and with the Montana and the dung pile games being at home, the attendance should be respectable. Glad to see the schedule come together like this.

VERY nice schedule...great for travel as well...only thing that would have been better would have been @ USD for week 3 :D and home for Weber St...but overall very well done

In a surprise move that blindsided almost everybody including NDSU athletic director Gene Taylor, the FCS Championships Committee last week approved a new ratings system to gauge the quality of a team’s schedule. It will take into account games with Football Bowl Subdivision, FCS and Division II opponents.

The expansion of the FCS playoff field from 20 to 24 teams was a reason cited for the change, Taylor said.

“There will be levels of strength of schedule,” Taylor said. “For instance, a Division II win will not count as much as an FBS win. Home wins and road wins are also counted differently.”

Taylor said the exact formula still needs to be finalized, so it has yet to be publically released.

Looks like the playoff selection committee will have a different outlook on D2 play down games starting this season. This will help us a lot as it seems that there is only 1 FCS program out west (USD) to possibly schedule for an OOC game. I guess I can’t bitch about scheduling a D2 game anymore. :(

The early game at SJSU has been finalized with a time of 7 PM. Time of kickoff has heretofore been up in the air.

I'm not exactly thrilled with our OOC schedule, given that we're playing NCAA D-II/NAIA Southern Oregon (yes, they're double hatted) and SUU. I hate that in-conference OOC thing, but given that we already have SOU on the schedule, playing ANOTHER down game would DESTROY any chance we have for the playoffs short of winning the Big Sky, which is probably not going to happen for a few years.

I think the remaining schedule is pretty much as expected.

Comments welcome, as per usual.
