2014-15 Rankings

Hi, I''ve put a post together with some very early rankings for next season.

http://www.bigskybball.com/2014/04/early-2014-15-big-sky-rankings.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've got Weber State at #1, but really I think 1-5 (or more) is really almost a pick 'em, you could make the case for a lot of teams.

Anyway, would be interested to hear feedback and thoughts on how teams slot heading into next season.

Not sure I would have Weber #1, since there are quite a few question marks for Weber at this point. Could Weber end up winning the conference, sure, but until I see their JC kids and their freshman on the floor against some D1 competition, I can't put Weber first. Sac St looks good to me. McKinney and Garrity are solid and Stuteville looked real good at the end of the season. Not a lot of teams will have anyone to match up with him.
NAU could be real good. Upshur was a puzzle. One game he seemed like the player of the conference and the next game he'd disappear. Not sure how much of hole Jacobsen leaves.
Not sure about EWU. Vois is a tough match-up in the BSC. And Harvey is an elite scorer, but I'm not convinced that they will be able to compete for the top spot.
Same with Montana. Jamar did so many things for that team last year.

I agree with pretty much everything WSUProf has said. One thing I would add is that UNCO could be a pretty good team next year. They are going to fly under the radar and could shock some folks. I like their recruits and they have a solid group of recruits. Also, they are bringing in the Air Force transfer who had a pretty solid freshman campaign in Colorado Springs two seasons ago. PSU, has a good base, but needs bigs. MSU is in total rebuild mode, SUU will be better; how can they not be?? ISU...well, I think they take a step back, but in doing so will take two steps forward. UM...I don't think they will be anywhere near as tough.

I agree with most everything that has been said. However, I wouldn't have UND sliding quite so far. They will have a couple of quality wings and a good big man. I think that they will be better than what everyone is thinking. SUU may be a bit better, but they will still be horrible. UM has a couple of good bigs coming in and that is what was missing from their team this past year. I think they will be better than predicted. On paper, Sac appears to be getting better. However, we say the same thing about them every year and they find way to disappoint us. They may be ranked a little high.

It will probably be another ally fight in the BSC next year. That situation seems to favor WSU because we defend our home floor so well, and always seem to pull off some good road wins. :thumb:

North Dakota will be horrible next year because:

A. They have the worst coach in the Big Sky now that Huse is gone.
B. They lost 7 Seniors and almost all of their offense.
C. Carson Shanks is not great and their recruiting class is not anything special either
D. They have lost one of their top assistants to South Dakota. Its hard to succeed when you pay your staff peanuts.

The Sac State fans are freaking out. LOOOOOOOL a team that have never had a top three finish in conference history and they are acting like the greatest thing since sliced bread. Is Katz a good coach? Yes... Does he have a good team returning next season? YES... Did he have a good recruiting class? For Sac St. standards yes. Best in the Sky? NO.

After looking at the recruiting, transfers, and coaching changes, here is my new ranking.

WSU
EWU
Sac
NAU

UNC
PSU
UI
MSU

UM
ISU
UND
SUU

I may be foolish rating Sac so high, but they look good on paper. I hope they don't disappoint. :thumb:
