So, now that Miami has won the prize of Sherman, what are our next steps?

A. Does the coaching staff look for a JC guy?
B. Try to sign another HS kid this fall?
C. Sign a kid in a different position either JC/HS this fall, and go for another top PF recruit for 2015?
D. Wait till next Spring sitting on the open scholie?
E. A Walk on earns a scholie?

Looking at the roster and who has verballed so far, where is our most pressing need?

PG: After this season, the Cats will have Jeremy Senglin Soph and Hayden Hunter FR, with McKay Cannon on his second half of the two year mish. Jeremiah Jefferson could also see mins at the PG spot.

SG: Royce Williams SR, Richaud Gittens Soph, and Jeremiah Jefferson FR; Senglin could also play SG

SF: Kyndahl Hill Soph, Josh Fuller Soph, and Ryan Richardson FR; Royce and Gittens could also see mins.

PF: Joel JR...NEED I SAY MORE?? :kisswink: But Kyndahl and Josh could also see mins here. Bull went from 3 to 4 and back to 3 in Rahe's system. It is possible. Also,

C: Hajek SR, Van Pelt RFR, and Braxton FR.

Personally, I think we are pretty good. Another big wouldn't hurt. Maybe a JC guy who can play both C and PF?

2013-2014 Walkons: JC Kennedy CG, Aziz Leeks F, Christian MacDonald CG, and Brady Borklund F. Maybe one or two stick around. These are guys who could have gotten scholarship in 06 - 07.

Yes, I'm bummed that Sherman decided to attend the U of Miami. It is hard to not want to go to an ACC school. But, if you look at Miami's 2015 list, they already have 6 guys on it, which says a lot to me, if I were a recruit. But...no worries. I wish him luck. He was deciding between three different types of girls, and he decided on the flashiest one. Weber doesn't need lipo and boob jobs though. We stay in shape on our own laurels and efforts.

I think the Cats should try to sign another kid this fall if possible. I was on verbal commits and there are a couple of guys of interest left. We have already discussed Connor McClenaghan, but there are others. Matthew Thomas 6-9 kid from CA, Brett Jolley from TX who had a really solid summer playing AAU ball, and is going to be at a prep school this year, and Arkadiy Mkrtychyan 6-6 F from Turkmenistan who plays high school ball in Oregon. 6-5 Derrick Clayton from the Bay Area might be available still too. Mason Stuteville from CA at 6-9 isn't a bad prospect, his brother is playing for SAC. There is Mitchell Solomon, but I'm sure that isn't much of a possibility http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Mitchell-Solomon-147110?colleges=show#college_choices" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

My personal opinion is that we should not fill that last spot with anyone, unless they make us better. It just doesn't make sense to bring someone in to sit on the bench for 4 years, like Miami did. If there is somebody out there who can help us, then GREAT, bring them on. Otherwise, keep your options open. There is, absolutely, no rush. We are not weak at any position.

I love where we are at right now. :thumb:

Bring it on!

Well said, I couldn't agree more. Don't fill the spot just to fill it, make sure it is someone really wanted that will strengthen the team even more.

I agree...can't sign someone who isn't going to improve the program.

But, we need to sign someone. Of course, someone who will preferably be able to help out next year. Here is why: Van Pelt will be coming back from a mission, Hajek has had knee issues, and Braxton, granted can and is good enough to play, but will only be a fresh and is being brought in to play the center position. Some added depth will be nice.

Yes, Fuller and Hill gives us some tweeners who could help out in the post, and Joel is going to be our starting PF, But another PF would be nice heading into next season. Can't wait too long, and we don't want to keep heading into seasons with open scholarships and a handful of walkons.

Personally, I think another HS big would be the way to go, and the longer we wait the harder it'll be to find one.

I disagree about the longer we wait the harder it will be to find a big. First, we have two bigs coming in next year, to replace two departing bigs. Second, we have some high quality jr bigs that we are recruiting right now, with only one scholarship to offer that year. Third, there are, often, players who don't sign, with who they were hoping for, in the fall and are floating, looking for a home over the winter. If a really good post player fell into our lap, sure, take him. Otherwise, leave an opening to see what shakes out. You don't want to shut the door on all of the possibilities. :coffee:

With Weber in pretty good shape, which they are, unless a truly good prospect falls in their lap, I like the flexibility and ability to wait to hand out a scholarship. With Weber's recent success, the Lillard factor, and Rahe's ability to recruit, I think their next step needed to keep the momentum rolling and the program strengthening is to win the BSC and have a good showing in March Madness. That exposure that has been missing for several years could be the key for that next recruiting step. We're all hopeful, and realistically I might add, that this could be that year. I truly believe if this happens, having some scholarship flexibility will serve them well. Don't rush things at this point, they're in good position.

Can you really blame him for committing to The U? A great football school in my lifetime but their bball program was amazing last yr. Who wouldn't wanna play for that coach? Anyone see that pregame boxing speech he made in the big dance. Haha. South Beach or Ogden? Too easy! :-D
