2014 Recruiting Thread

I think it's interesting how we always hear things are going so wrong down at the blocks, we seem to get a fair number of players transferring in from OSU.

So far, there's only three: Loomis, Lopez, and Coury. Hardly enough to rattle the rafters. Still, Coury's addition seems to indicate that Burton stands just fine in football circles. I don't think that Coury's dad would have let him transfer to PSU if he had any doubts about the program.

I was being a bit sarcastic. I think that times have changed. Players are probably more willing to transfer if things aren't going as promised at whatever school they are at. People leave U of O, OSU, PSU Montana, MSU I don't really think there is much to make of it.

This is the player profile for James Schell-Buchanan from the Les Schwab Bowl site. I believe he will be a Portland State University Viking this coming fall. Not sure if he is walk-on or a scholarship player, but he is another talented local player suiting up in the green and white. Go Viks!

James Schell-Buchanan - Roosevelt
Number: 6
Position: WR / DB
Height: 6-0
Weight: 185
High School: Roosevelt
H.S. Coach: Christian Swain
College: Undecided
James was a four-time letterman in football and a two-time letterman in both basketball and track for the Roughriders. As a senior James was voted 1st team All-State as a wide receiver and 2nd team All-State as a defensive back. At Roosevelt James carried a 3.1 GPA and was the leader of the B.Moore project traveling to Atlanta for a youth leadership conference. James is unsure where he will attend college but will be playing football at the next level.

Larry Ross' teammate from De La Salle high school will be on the Vikings roster this upcoming year:

#21 Class of 2014
V SARVER
De La Salle High Varsity Football, Concord, CA

Kyle Loomis' heir apparent?

Hunter Hermansen's player profile from the Les Schwab Bowl:

Hunter Hermansen - North Medford
Number: 57
Position: OL / DL
Height: 6-2
Weight: 220
High School: North Medford
H.S. Coach: Mike Mitchell
College: Portland State University
Hunter earned three letters in both football and track & field during his time at North Medford. He earned 1st team all-conference status on both sides of the ball as an offensive and defensive lineman and was a 2nd team All-State selection on defense. Hunter carried a 3.3 GPA, was a member of the national Honor Society and did volunteer work at the Southern Oregon Humane Society and also at the Salvation Army. He has played football since the 5th grade and will continue his football career at Portland State University where he will be the punter.

Maybe this has already been listed somewhere on the forum, but it's news to me: Jonathan Gonzales, a kicker! who seems to have had a pretty good freshman year at a JUCO in California.

A mid-summer signee who will contend for the starting kicker role.

PREVIOUS TO PORTLAND STATE
Played at San Bernardino Valley College in 2013... earned first team All-Conference, first team All-Region IV and first team CCCFCA All-American... made a school record three field goals longer than 50 yards... made 13-17 field goals and 40-44 extra points... was the Special Teams Player of the Year.
