2015 Season

Ok, so most people don't want to hear about "perspective", and yeah, we got our asses kicked in arguably the biggest games of the season, but here's a few things to consider.

-Any way you slice it, we are a young team with mostly Freshman and Sophomores playing on the defense. Whether some of you want to admit it or not, this group will be good the next couple of seasons. We have size on the defensive line, and speed in the secondary. Look at guys playing as RS Freshmen or even true Freshmen this year. Guys like Keenan Williams, Ketner Kupp, Monike Sarke, Jonah Jordan, etc...will be special. Give them time.

-We've had some tremendous recruiting classes the past couple of years. Yeah, we will most likely lose Cooper after this season, but you need to look at some of the guys redshirting this year. Dre Dorton, Jayson WIlliams, Savion Sims, Tysen Prunty, Sam Inos, and Dehonta Hayes are going to be ballers at EWU. We also got some outstanding Offensive Linemen that are redshirting this season that will form the nucleus for the next 4 years.

-In 2006, we went 3-8 with a young Freshman QB who would go on to be a 4 year starter at EWU. The next season, as a sophomore, Matt Nicholas took EWU to the playoffs and took App St to the wire. I think Reilly has all the tools to be at least a three year starter at Eastern. A lot will depend on how much he (and all our QB's) work in the off-season.

Sometimes you need to accept having a season like this...and recognize it for what it is. We still have a shot at the playoffs, and yeah, we could lose or even get blown out against PSU...they are good. At the end of the day we'll still have another winning season and the potential to be very good over the next 3-4 years, even if we have to accept taking our lumps a little this year. And that's ok...we'll be back.

The Seahawks and the Eagles need to get together and coordinate their off years, so we can at least follow one dominant team every year ;)

Nothing good lasts forever. No team sits on the throne long. However, we are blessed to have a program in which we can be confident WE WILL BE BACK

:thumb: Just a thought....With WSU having success do you think they will be able to recruit higher caliber players...meaning EWU will get more kids that would have gone to a losing WSU to play pac-12 ?

I am sure its not easy being a college coach I know for a fact they put their life and soul into it and for people on this board thinking they know better is crazy talk. ( You don't know what you had until its gone)
Lets not experience that please.

Long story short we have been playing this season with kids that are 18 - 20 years old and not highly recruited because the first teamers are injured.

Everyone is down on the D well when we do have the ball we have become so predictable. Without a stud RB we are one dementionable and the opposing D just comes at us.

I'm not sure I buy into this whole bit of being injured. Who are we really missing? We were about as healthy as we've been since week one against Montana. Yeah, our shocking number of injuries ever year is an ongoing concern, but we're not down an abnormal amount of players at this moment.

Talent is talent. This team passes the eyeball test per your comments above and mine early season. This season is on the coaches. Home for the holidays.

Tough season, for sure. But it was always going to be a tough season when the guy you're expecting to be your Senior Leader on offense decides to bail. No, I'm not blaming our record on Vernon, but in a perfect world we'd have had another season to groom his replacement.

There are some big areas that we'll have to shore up in the off-season. Taking our lumps this season is acceptable in my book, because I know that we're going to be very good in a couple years from now.

And hey, the basketball season is upon us!

I also think we're be right back in the mix next season. The biggest losses from this team will be on the offensive line, we really don't lose much on defense. Our new guys on the line and the QB's will need to put in some serious work in the winter, spring, and summer.

A couple Pac-12 transfers wouldn't hurt, either.

I would also be remiss if I didn't congratulate these Seniors, who were part of 3 Big Sky Championships. That's more than any other class at EWU. You have a lot to be proud of, fellas.

We will desperately need some help at Safety, and bringing in 1 or 2 transfers that can play on the offensive line is probably a good idea too. It blows my mind that we have 7 Seniors departing from the line.

Our entire season can be summarized by that last drive of the game. We have every chance to win, and we kick off with 5:38 to go and all our timeouts. PSU converts four first downs and runs out the clock. It was just a slow, hemorrhagic death. And it was punctuated by three losses in a row to completely ruin the season.

The only way I can summarize this season is to be brutally honest. I have never witnessed such poor defensive coaching at D1 level in my life. That's the honest truth. It's embarrassing bad and something has to change. If we run out the same coaching leadership on defense , It will hurt the credibility of the team, in my opinion. This defensive coaching staff got out coached, yet again. PSu made adjustments at half and we had no answers. This defense doesn't past the eye test and change is needed- otherwise fans are going to turn to wsu in droves and it m a y threaten ticket sales next year, because nobody wants to pay to watch mediocrity. So I think ewu is at critical moment. 1. They have to stop selling gateway snake oil and make a decision. 2. Get a real D1 defensive coordinator.

Congratulations to SUU for winning the BIG game against NAU and the Big Sky Conference outright. Looks like SUU, PSU and Montana into the playoff's. Will know more in an hour.

Eags are the most talented underperforming team in the FCS. Better luck next year?

OK, I will amend this to the tried and true phrase "rebuild year". Eags will be the team to beat in 2016 even with a potential loss of Cooper Kupp. Any other possible issues that might hinder the growth of this team moving forward?

Defense. Wins. Championships.

It's the ago old saying that always proves true. My teams have been the benefit of it (2010, EWU and 2013, Seahawks) and they've also been the downfall (the last 3 EWU teams).

With an average D, we win last night and we beat UNI in the earlier game. That's 8-3 and a share of the Big Sky title.

I enjoy our offense, but I love defense and that's what wins game in November and December. No argument can be made otherwise.

Actually, it's quite arguable.

Statistically offense and balance wins Championships. https://www.teamrankings.com/blog/stat-geek-idol/defense-wins-championships-no-offense-and-balance-do-stat-geek-idol" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And just in case anyone forgets, we had 14 turnovers the last 3 weeks. Cut that in half and we're probably playing this weekend.

8-3, underachieved a little, with a chance to win a game or two in the playoffs, and hope for next year.
