I wouldn't be surprised to see at 3 of the incoming freshman OL suiting up if Ben Puapuaga doesn't return. The offense is really young, luckily there are some very good athletes.

clawman..looks like they list who is ahead in the series and lists them 1st...ie UNI 6-0...WSU 3-0 EWU 29-10 vs MSU..and so on...I think

Here are some things that stand out to me:

1) Jerrod Jones is starting at center. I didn't realize that was in the works. I don't think he has played center his entire football career, high school or college.

2) We have an entirely freshman left offensive line. It's pretty likely that our quarterback(s) will take a beating from their blind side.

3) Shaq Hill is listed lasted as kick returner. How the mighty have fallen.

I can't possibly imagine that Shaq Hill doesn't wind up returning kickoffs this year. We tried some other guys last year and we had a terrible return game. We wound up benching Webster late in the year due to turnovers.

Shaq was an all conference returner, i'd be shocked if he doesn't return the lions share of our kickoffs...

Shaw might not be totally recovered from his knee injury, and thus why he is listed down the depth chart. The Freshman Offensive Line is concerning to say the least, but we knew it would be this way this year. Maybe this is why we're going with the more mobile QB?

I wouldn't call it a QB1 pick...more like a QB1 sacrifice vs WSU, Then the QB2 sacrifice vs NDSU. Then the QB3 sacrifice vs UNI,. Remember we have no OLineman back...not a one. Our QB's will be sacrificed to the Football Gods...they will fight with honor!

I must say, I'm still pretty surprised with the QB1 pick.
I think the most mobile QB gives us the best chance against WSU. It's going to be a tall task against Washington St. no matter who is behind center, but with a young o-line, we don't need a sitting duck in the pocket. What continues to stand out to me when I look at the roster is how young our team is. That's not a bad thing in the long run when you think about the experience being gained. I like where we are picked to finish in the league this year. Leaves a chip on our shoulder and keeps us from complacency. I think we surprise some teams.

go eags!

Guys, I don't think they have actually chosen a QB1. Notice they are all listed in alphabetical order and it states:

Gage Gubrud OR Jordan West OR Reilly Hennessey. I think they are keeping the QB starter a surprise until WSU.

If you listen to the AD podcast from the big sky pre season shenanigans, Larry Weir was interviewing Coach Baldwin about the QB position.

He firmly stated that Gage was #1 going INTO fall camp, but that doesn't mean he is the season start, he's jacked on all 3 QB's! Which is great news for us.

I loved watching Reilly last year, he has so much potential, and everything I am hearing about Gage is even better. The guy that is red shirting may be the 2nd coming of VA next year though.

I've always thought Hennessey was going to be the next great QB at EWU, and my thoughts still haven't changed. However, what I saw LIVE during the spring scrimmages left me thinking that many of us have been underestimating, and I mean really underestimating what Gage brings to the table. If Gage starts the season I think he will give WSU fits. When the Cougs have great coverage on and he takes off for 20 yards, I can see that driving the defense nuts. If the defense decides to cheat, our receivers will make them pay.

I'm guessing EB3 will be redshirted, but from what I've seen on film he looks faster than Adams and it looks like he has a stronger arm. His high school stats are just ridiculous and I'm pretty sure I heard Baldwin say it was against good competition. I also heard Baldwin comment that if EB3 was a couple inches taller he would have been a 4-Star recruit.

I like our QB sitch going forward.

go eags!

This. 1) As already mentioned, a mobile quarterback and one you can call designed runs for is a young line's best friend. 2) Everyone will still have to respect the talent we have at receiver, especially with Shaq back and his ability to stretch the field.

Not that this means much, but the smallest OL is 6'4" 300.

My biggest concern is DL and safety. I'm quite surprised the staff didn't try to bring in some transfers to fill in for some of the guys that struggled so badly last year. The scheme was a real problem last season, but you can get kind of lost when you just don't have the talent.

Another big issue will be toughness. We just can't see the same number of injuries from week to week, as it destroys continuity. No one could really argue that we seemed to get progressively worse over the course of the year in 2015.
