Dos anyone know why Karsen Liljenquist (SO/LB) is no longer on the roster for 2016? He was a key player for the Wildcats last year... what happened?

I wouldn't read ANYTHING into what the roster currently shows on weberstatesports.com until the first game. :twocents:

I did just watch a video on facebook posted by fox sports yesterday about him out benching the entire NFL combine...so my guess is he is still on the team

I've heard that he is looking at transferring to a "bigger" program. Kinda sucks if he does decide to leave, but that is his decision. I don't get it. I wouldn't want to go to a program that didn't want me originally. I would be loyal to the school that sought me out and has been developing me. Oh well, if he leaves so be it. I wish him the best. If not, well, great, he is a hell of a good LB and it would be a privilege watching him play for the Wildcats for the next three years.

Wow! That's weird. Ena scalping our players? Hard to believe that Whittingham would allow this or do that to Jay. Weird move. Oh well...I believe you, just curious about the news story, do you have a link? I couldn't find anything.

So wait, for Karsen to do this he is going to have to forfeit a year of eligibility to maybe play for the Utes? I wouldn't sit another year to only get the chance to possibly play 2. Wow!! He must not be the sharpest crayon in the box. Oh well...We are going to be fine without him and I wish him the best. I don't want someone here who doesn't want to be here anyway.

I can't find anything anywhere on this. Are you sure this is right?

It was on this evenings 530 pm fox 13 news cast. They showed Karsens weight lifting video and then had an interview with him where he stated himself that he is transferring to Utah. Don't believe me I really don't care.

No no no, I meant no offense. I just thought that there would be something put up online and I was confused that I couldn't find anything and was wondering why

So I finally found that video. Again, I didn't mean to offend. Hell, Standard Examiner's story still lists him as returning to Weber State

"Liljenquist has wanted to play professionally since he was 10 years old, and made the decision to transfer from Weber State to Utah hoping a D1 school would give him the recognition and opportunity he needs."

Adios.

Yeah cause playing in the FCS does little for recognition (cough Carson Wentz, cough cough)

Joking aside I wish him the best in his journey to professional ball, but he could have had the same recognition here at Weber State. In all reality, it doesn't matter where you play, if you have the numbers you will get looked at.

“Not very many kids get drafted out of Weber because it's a smaller school, but it would be pretty amazing if I could do that," Liljenquist said.

I don't get it...is he sure that he wants to transfer? As for the amazing lifting, uh, Madsen, duh, he is using. There is a reason why it is so unique.

Okay, so the story is wrong in that he isn't having to sit to learn Wittingham's system, he is sitting and losing a year of eligibility because he has to. It is an NCAA rule. Leaving to walk on at Utah, giving up a scholarship and automatic playing time to me is really weird. Players get drafted out of Weber (Big Sky Conference) all the time. In the state, did anyone get drafted out of Utah this year? Nope... But SUU and USU got a lot drafted. I really don't think Karsen is the brightest bulb in the box. This is a bad decision on his part. This is going to end badly for him. He can be strong, but he has to get a lot faster. I would have moved him to DE if I was Jay Hill, but that is me. Maybe that is why he is leaving.

Heard about this possibly happening two weeks ago, but didn't want to believe it. My source said that more and more FBS -especially the UTES in Utah- schools are treating FCS programs like feeders. That they are actively enticing (*recruiting) FCS players to transfer to the "bigger" program. These programs claim that they have far more opportunities than FCS programs and that there is a greater chance for the player to go to the NFL. A more direct pipeline. You can't really argue with that message other than the fact that only 1% of college football players make it to the NFL and actually profit from the trade.

Since Jay has come to Weber, he has won a number of recruiting battles over FBS programs, which is helping Weber State succeed. However, even after winning a recruit, other FBS programs continue to recruit our players and he is losing some of those guys. The dirty part of the business is that they only get recruited once they have shown their ability. As for Liljenquist, he was recruited through John Madsen Performance by, most likely, his former DC Justin Ena. Of course everyone will deny that happened, but that is the most likely scenario. Liljenquist will not be on scholarship this year, but will be for his Jr and Sr. years. To say that this is a bad decision is crazy. He will end up playing a lot of downs for the Utes. Is he a cheater? There is some speculation to that, but, yes, probably. There is a lot indicating that he is using something to enhance his performance. There are a lot of guys at Weber doing the same thing and most likely over 90% of the Utah team is too. But, as has been stated by others, it is fairly obvious in his case. It doesn't matter, what matters is the continued, aggressive, recruitment of FCS players by FBS schools.

It happens in basketball too, not just football. :twocents:
IF the NCAA wasn't so corrupt perhaps they would step in and do something about schools actively recruiting kids that are already attending other schools.

Wow...well, Guess I was wrong. The mighty PAC-12 team had one guy in the 4th round get picked.

Hate to lose a player like Liljenquist but sadly that's the new reality whether we like it or not.

The best way to stop players from transferring from Weber to Utah or other schools is to win. You win, scouts notice the program and pick guys up. Southern Utah is a great example of that. They had a great season and players got drafted. The same goes for perennial powerhouses Montana and North Dakota State as well.

Personally, I think Liljenquists decision won't further his NFL dreams as much as he thinks it will. He'd stand out at a place like Weber State. Not so much at Utah and against PAC-12 competition. But that's his decision, not mine, to make. I hope he has a good career with the Utes.

Just thought I'd clear the air. Justin Ena had nothing to do with this. Karsen's dad approached both BYU and Utah, neither said they wanted him but Utah told him that they would let him walk on, IF, he could get admitted to the university. If he doesn't the Liljenquist's hope that a year at Snow is enough to get him a spot on an FBS team (funny, he couldn't get excited about playing Montana, but will about playing Pima Community College). I do know that Jay said, if you leave, you leave. You cannot come back to Weber. So, I hope this works out for him, and he makes an FBS roster, but I wouldn't doubt seeing him end up at another FCS down the road.
