2017-2018 Recruiting Class

Looks like the 17-18 recruiting class is off to a strong start. Coach Katz and staff picked up an ESPN 3-star California top-50 (32nd overall) recruit in ELIJAH McCULLOUGH! I haven't been able to find a lot of videos on him but from the few Twitter posts, it seems like he has an amazing 3-point shot. Hopefully that translate into D1 college basketball. In addition, I'm really hoping the McCullough continues the trend of successful ESPN ranked recruits that have landed at Sac State (Dylan Garrity, Nick Hornsby and Marcus Graves). I know that these rankings don't mean much (Mikh McKinney) but showing talent at an early stage means something.

*On a side note, other teams in the Big Sky are picking up a lot of steam when it comes to recruiting. Weber, Montana and Idaho used to be the only schools that were able to pull guys away from MWC and WCC schools but Southern Utah and NAU are quickly closing the gap. Speaking of SUU, they easily won this year recruiting in the Big Sky with Dwayne Morgan, a former UNLV key contributer and ESPN 5 star recruit alone. Not to mention Harrison Butler who will most likely be the favorite to win Freshman of the year. Watch the for the T-Birds, they might take the reign as Big Sky's cream of the crop sooner rather than later.

Elijah McCullough officially signed. Our only rated recruit this year. (Impact Player, should take over the reign from Graves as starting PG after Graves graduate)

James Bridges officially signed. One hell of a story. I think he's great for the program. 4.5 GPA! Interests from other D1 programs. I think he's a rotational player (potential starter at SG)

Grant Greabell. (I don't expect him to contribute. A walk-on talent at the D1 level but Katz and Co. extended a scholarship offer). Maybe he proves me wrong?

Thoughts and comments: We need help with our frontline. Period. We need at least one more starting caliber F/C to help with our lineup. But at the college, those guys are hard to come by being a low-major program.

Good to see Katz land some HS talent. With the last class heavily weighted on JC players, I was concerned that was going to be the new trend which likely meant that the program cratered and we would be hitting the reset button on the program again. I hope Katz can get this program competitive again. I don’t care what type/style of player Katz recruits so long as they can score.

I don't mind JUCO players at all actually. Portland State has become a power over night in Big Sky basketball with an all JUCO line up last year. The thing is, there are times when we're too focus on recruiting guys that "fits the culture" and are just average players who should be in DII. We need ballers whose GPA might be a 2.7 but can flat out play. You know what I mean?
