With deep respect to our 14 seniors as this is season is not over, it is hard to not look at 2018 with optimism and excitement. The schedule is reposted below. Making the playoffs this season will have a huge impact in countless ways next season. Our 2009 team making the playoffs helped make the 2010 title run possible. Enrollment exploded at EWU after the Red Turf installation and national title run put us "top of mind" for so many young people in the Northwest. The games on ROOT don't hurt either.

Our football program deserves the resources to recruit the student-athletes that can win national titles. We had a good crowd at Roos Field yesterday but it's the cold weather and Zag basketball that remind us we need to improve our facilities in a meaningful way. EWU Athletics is doing their part, it is time for others to step up and provide the leadership needed to make something, anything, happen regarding our football venue. For new fans there are no decent seats, the growth of the program is being held back.

I pledge to do my part to remind the decision makers at EWU that the next President should commit to the growth of EWU Athletics by getting in front of people and asking for money so our school can prosper. With more than three years as President our current leader is running out of time to make something meaningful happen. EWU can't afford another mistake when the next President is chosen.

I thought the 2010 schedule was a title run schedule, feel the same about our schedule below. Very tough three week stretch before our bye week but we should be ready for the Vandals. Awesome they are back. I see them as the league favorite but too soon to worry about that.

2018 SCHEDULE

9/8/18 - at Northern Arizona
9/15/18 - at Washington State
9/22/18 - Cal Poly* (tentatively Hall of Fame Day at EWU)
9/29/18 - at Montana State*
10/6/18 - Southern Utah*
10/13/18 - at Weber State*

10/27/18 - Idaho* (tentatively Homecoming at EWU)
11/3/18 - at Northern Colo.*

Good post and yes, athletics is not getting the leadership from BoT and administration it deserves.

You make it sound as though we are either searching for a new president or have completely given up on the current one?

It't not over till it's over but there is just no sense of urgency. The time is right with a strong local economy and so much happening all over the region. Except at Roos Field.

Like everyone, shocked we have been left out but our football program needs support now more than ever. We had a good season and our 7-4 record should have put us in. Can't wait for spring ball and appreciate the great senior class we had.

Maybe we can start to schedule some better non conf games...committee made it pretty clear today that amount of wins count more than who you played and strength of schedule....we better schedule a cupcake week 1 next year, at home

The University took a huge hit when Dr. Arevelo decided to retire, especially when it comes to vision. We were trending in the right direction when it comes to facilities and fundraising for the University in general. One of the functions of a University President is to energize the alumni base and raise funds for projects. The current President has done very little in that regard. In fact, I don't even know what she does. She is an empty suit. Her, and the BoT that hired her needs to go, period.

All seriousness, are we getting the proper level of leadership at the AD position? We play one D1 team at home in basketball. Two years ago, we played zero D1 teams at home.

Next year, we presently have zero non-conference home games. I'm sure that'll change. But we can only get road games with Fordham? This years playoff snub was several years of poor scheduling in the making. The second we weren't quite good enough to play through the crap schedule, it cost us dearly. But the writing was on the wall for a long while.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we need to get a new AD. I'm just saying it's time to learn from mistakes and stop making them. It isn't just the schedule, it obviously reflects on the facilities as well. It's been talked about forever, but there hasn't even been a budgetary goal or a timeline presented.

Facilities improvements fall squarely on the administration and BoT, not they athletic department. They agree with you 100% and have been putting forth the effort for years.

agreed, she needs to go. take the crappy BOT with her. Time for REAL leadership. What has she done for academics let alone athletics? It just seems like this President is along for the ride. Anyone can keep the ship afloat. Takes real leadership to influence change.

Winning conference games helps too.

I'm not saying it isn't a leadership issue above the AD, but the Ad's job is to advocate for athletics. If that isn't happening, then it's a failure of synergy between the AD and the President/Trustees.

Look at what's happened at WSU. Jim Sterk's programs were perpetual losers and no facilities project ever got moving. Once Moos came in, suddenly some programs start to win and facilities get built. While I'm sure a lot of that derives from motivation at the university leadership level, I don't believe you can take the AD out of that equation.

Based on the rather dramatic increases in enrollment, there might be a certain amount of contentment with her leadership. It just isn't translating to athletics. Given the amount of use the general student body gets from our stadium (they host graduation at Roos Field most years), it would seem like it should be of much higher priority.
