Northern Arizona should be in there someplace along with Southern Utah and Weber State.

The question is will there be more than 4 home games? Should have one more squeezed in there, but that is 13 weeks, so there will be two bye weekends next year.

Yes, one more home game to make 5 home, 6 away. Could easily see the 9/21 date as a BYE; wouldn't it be great to have a BYE on 11/16 before the EWU game?

We plan on going to both the Arkansas and Boise State games...

Weber State will not be on Portland State's schedule next year. The Wildcats have already posted their complete 2019 schedule, and it does not include PSU. The Vikings more than likely will complete their conference schedule with Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona, and Southern Utah.

Based on the announced schedules of other Big Sky schools, here's what Portland State's 2019 conference schedule should look like:

Sept 28: At Idaho State
Oct 5: Southern Utah
Oct 12: Idaho
Oct 19: At Northern Colorado
Oct 26: At Northern Arizona
Nov 2: Montana
Nov 9: UC Davis
Nov 16: OPEN
Nov 23: At Eastern Washington

So, TWO byes... one just before conference play starts on 9/21 and an away game at ISU... AND on 11/16 before the DAM Cup. Sweet!

The NCAA has given the schools the option of having two byes or playing a 12-game schedule next year.
Myself, in consideration of safety, I'd take the byes. I definitely would not want us to fill one of those with a second DII (or lower) opponent.

Yeah, if you look at that from this point of view, then yes, it's better to play it safe. It means that the teal will have less chances to illustrate itself, but less chances to see itself humiliated as well.

Most announced schedules nationally (so far anyway) have teams playing 12 games next year with the breakdown being 8 conference, 3 DI non-conference (FBS and FCS), and 1 lower division. With PSU playing only 11 games, that could be a hindrance if our fate is left up to the playoff committee. Typically in years past, 7-5 teams would be looked at more favorably than 7-4 teams (how many games you won and not how many you've lost).

The reason that we are playing 11 rather than 12 games is that not playing is cheaper than playing. That tells you just about all you need to know about the Administration' commitment to football.

Is it certain PSU will not play 12 games? The Vikings' 2019 schedule has not been officially announced yet. Perhaps a 12th game is still being negotiated, maybe on September 12th.

You mean the 21st? Interesting, North Dakota currently has an 11-game schedule with an open date on 9-21, and it would be their turn to come here.

Yes, my goof -- the 21st is right. And you are correct: North Dakota is a possibility on that date. So is Cal Poly, which also has an 11 game schedule with a September 21 open date.

True. Poly has only one non conference home game so they would most likely want us to travel (and it didn't sound like Barnum was too impressed with the length of the bus trip last year). Aside from their Big Sky slate, North Dakota has two non-conference home games (Drake and Sam Houston) and six overall so I don't think they would mind another Big Sky road game. Most teams are scheduling their non-conference as two home and two away, so it would not be a stretch for both North Dakota and us to want to fit the mold.

If we are thinking playoffs next year (and we should be), there's no reason to start putting up unnecessary hurdles.

Correct. If there is a 12th game against either North Dakota or Cal Poly, it would probably be the Fighting Hawks at home or the Mustangs on the road.

Am hoping North Dakota is a possibility, but they haven’t scheduled an FBS game yet and they have FBS opponents on the books pretty much every other year for the foreseeable future so it seems like they may need that revenue

I actually was looking at that (the offhand chance that we may want a 3rd money game) and the Pac-12 and Mountain West are pretty much filled already. But given where they are, UND could go east and probably pick one up. BTW, their "road" game is only to Fargo to play NDSU so with that and the two home games, they are not really shelling out a whole lot of money.

Sacramento State has just announced its 2019 football schedule, and it includes a November 16 game at Portland State. Idaho's already announced schedule includes a November 16 home date against Sacramento State. Obvious conflict here:

Portland State's athletics website now shows the Vikings' 2019 football schedule. It includes a home game on September 21st against Eastern Oregon, giving the team a 12 game schedule with 6 home games. Still no game on November 16th, contrary to Sacramento State's just announced schedule, which includes a game at PSU on that date.

Sacramento State has now corrected its schedule to show a game at Idaho on November 16 rather than at Portland state.
