2020 Season/Outlook

Okay, I'm still stinging from Saturday's loss - so I'm trying to redirect my energy into a positive direction on this...

We (should) have a lot coming back next season - with another tough schedule. We won't be surprising anyone this time around... I'd think we should be ranked in the Top 15 out of the gate...

SCHEDULE

Sep. 5 at San Diego State Aztecs
SDCCU Stadium, San Diego, CA

Sep. 12 at Washington Huskies
Husky Stadium, Seattle, WA

Sep. 19 - BYE

Sep. 26 at Idaho State Bengals
Holt Arena, Pocatello, ID

Oct. 3 Dixie State Trailblazers
Hornet Stadium, Sacramento, CA

Oct. 10 Southern Utah Thunderbirds
Hornet Stadium, Sacramento, CA

Oct. 17 at Montana Grizzlies
Washington-Grizzly Stadium, Missoula, MT

Oct. 24 Northern Arizona Lumberjacks
Hornet Stadium, Sacramento, CA

Oct. 31 at Northern Colorado Bears
Nottingham Field, Greeley, CO

Nov. 7 Cal Poly Mustangs
Hornet Stadium, Sacramento, CA

Nov. 14 Portland State Vikings
Hornet Stadium, Sacramento, CA

Nov. 21 at UC Davis Aggies
Aggie Stadium, Davis, CA

Dixie State is a transitional DI that will count towards the 7 win target.... I see 7-4 (6-2 BSC)... Home field Rd. 1 Playoff game...

2 of 2 Starters Returning

OVERALL 21 of 24 Starters (pretty much) able to return... We saw what happened to Davis this year... We want to avoid that....

On the plus side we drop Montana State and Weber from our conference schedule and replace them with Idaho State and Portland State...

... And Idaho replaced with UNCO...

... AND UNCO replaced with Dixie. :)

Hopefully we can also get Killian Rosko (DL) and Miguel Garcia (LB) back to health for next season. Rosko had a really good freshman season before injury and Garcia was having a great start to this season before getting injured early on. They both could start if healthy.

Offense graduates 2 staring OL (Bianco and Ming) but everything else returns. The defense loses some key players, mostly at DL (Obinna, Choates) and in the secondary (Bruce, Barnes and Perryman). Special teams loses LS Lauvai and K Medeiros. Big losses but a lot of players saw action on defense.

And we get to see who gets inked in the incoming recruiting class which is just around the corner (Dec 18th).

Also heard that the SUU game is moved to week 3 which is huge, otherwise there wouldn't have been a home game until October.

Not to take anything away from their 2018 season, they were damn good, but they lost an NFL caliber WR and had a much tougher schedule in '19 compared to '18. I'm sure they lost some other pieces as well but they had to do more than just show up every week to make the post season this year. They didn't and so their season ended well before their Causeway loss.

Our '20 schedule looks a lot "easier" (especially in conference) compared to the gauntlet we just ran. If this team takes care of business every week and can avoid a rash of injuries, we'll most likely see the post season again next year.

Interesting, and the BYE before UM is good too (I think?).

Why don’t they have 12 games? Might they add another home game??

I assume we will add an August game against one of the directional schools from Oregon or Washington.

Nope...

NCAA bylaws allow for 12 regular season games during years having 14 Saturdays in the period starting with the Labor Day (first Monday in September) weekend and ending with the last Saturday of November.

I believe the next year like this is 2023.

This can’t be the reason because I’ve seen others with a 12 game schedule next season.

No, not FCS teams. You didn’t specify that. You said NCAA bylaws, which I wouldn’t have assumed were limited to a faction of members. Hence my confusion.

I'm gonna be a bit more optimistic. I'm seeing 10-1 there....

Love your kind of optimism.

Washington might be vulnerable to the "scalp," too, but not as vulnerable as, say, Wazzu and Oregon State....
How cool would THAT be?!? Can't wait for this game in that stadium! Usually early September is still pretty nice up here and if it can be one of those days where it's about 70 and sunny (we actually see the sun in summer!) and if we could get a W there along with being able to see the gorgeous views they're famous for...

Can you blame a guy for being greedy?
