Since the season is over I wanted to look ahead to next year. What do you have coming back, what do we need, what is our biggest need, etc? I check the transfer portal a lot and its been really quiet on the Weber State side. Usually by now we hear of a couple players transferring or transferring in, but its been totally dead. I think Coach Rahe is really being patient and doing his due diligence finding the best fits for our program Looking at the current roster, we have 5 open spots left. With Kupsas leaving and the 5 Seniors that is 6 spots open, but we signed Dockery so that leaves us with 5 spots currently. You can almost always count on 2-3 transfers, but like I said nothing so far this year. I'm totally fine with everyone else coming back. I kind of thought we might see Nzekwesi leave because he never plays, but maybe he will break out his senior year. We only have 2 returning starters. Jones and Jawara. Porter was a starter 2 years ago, so I would assume he starts again this year unless we bring in a better player. We desperately need help at the Center and PG positions. I hope we can find another Koby in the portal. I think Tew can be solid, but he is not ready to be the main guy at Center. There seems to be some good options in the transfer portal. Coach Rahe really needs to make sure he gets the right guys. If we don't, next year could be a struggle. I have faith though. Assuming we will just have the 5 spots to fill, I would love to see 2 senior grad transfers, maybe another high school kid and 2 other mid year transfers. Either through the JC or 4 year. We need 2 center/power forwards, 2 guards one has to be a legit point guard and I would love another wing player similar to JJ Overton. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a transfer or two, but please don't be Jawara or Jones. That would suck if either of them leave. I'm anxious to see who we bring in. Go Weber!!

I feel that we would have heard by now if anyone was transferring out. However, things could change over the next few months. The deadline for not retaining a player is July 1st. The spring signing period starts April 13th. We may hear of commitments prior to that, but I wouldn't count on it. I don't think we will hear much about offers until a commitment has happened. With the transfer market being as big as it is, recruiting has completely changed. COVID created a back log of potential players and that effect will be with us for a few years yet. What it has done is force potential D1 kids into D11 and JC programs. One or two years in those programs and they are looking to transfer up. That isn't even taking into consideration the numbers hitting the prep schools for one more year of development.

Here is what I expect: I expect we will bring in at least 2 transfer guards, 2 transfer big men, and 1 HS/Prep player to go along with our early signee, Dockery.

By all accounts, Dockery appears to be the real deal and will have a chance to start at one of the wing positions. Eventually he could work himself into being a solid PG.

Jones is solid at 3/4 and Segu is solid at 1/2.

Kohler will be a solid 3/4 as well.

Tew will do nothing but get better. How fast that happens is the question.

Porter needs to get healthy and return to his normal shooting. If he does, he can be a good rotation guy.

Nzekwesi and Cunningham need to improve to become rotation players. It's mostly about not turning the ball over and defending.

Seems like I say this every year, in this recruiting class we need to bring in better outside shooting, rebounding in general, and interior defense. Just like last year, there is a ton of talent looking to transfer. We just need the right ones for WSU.
