2022-2023 Way too early depth chart

I thought it would be fun to do a way too early depth chart for the upcoming season. This is just a total guess on my part. Will be fun to see how it all shakes up when its all said and done.

Starting 5:

PG Ballard (This is the hardest position to predict. Could be several guys manning the point, but I like Ballard because of his experience and has played PG before.
SG Verplanken (I'm assuming he gets his waiver)
SF Porter (I'm hoping for a big senior season. Some might forget he started his JR year and averaged over 11 PPG.
PF Jones ( Best player on team.)
C Tamba (Could be Tew, but I like Tamba more. He has more upside I think and is 10 times the better athlete.

Top 3 Bench Players:

Dinwiddie (He didn't do much at SDSU, but coming out of high school was a high level recruit. I'm hoping he gets his shot here and does well.
Koehler ( They say the biggest improvement is from Freshman to Soph year. I can see Koehler take a big jump. He had his moments last year and his slumps.
Dockery (Our top Freshman recruit. I predict he makes the top 8 man rotation.

Spot Bench Players:

Cunningham (He has a chance to crack the top 8, but he has not shown me much in his 3-4 years so far. Maybe a break out year? I hope so. He seems like a great kid.)
Tew (I'm still not sold on Tew. Maybe he does that big Fresh to Soph leap, but he can't shoot and fouls too much. Around the hoop he is decent, but 6 feet away, he is useless)

The rest: Maybe these guys make the rotation, but usually only 8-9 guys even play.

Louden
Rouzan
Jordan

My feelings are that every position is up for grabs. The only sure bet, if you can call it that, is Dillon Jones. By the time conference gets rolling, we could have three freshmen starting. I wouldn't count out Louden, Dockery, or Tamba for starting positions. Likewise Dinwiddie and Ballard.

A starting combination I can envision is Dinwiddie, Ballard, Dockery, Jones, and Tamba.

Is this going to be the year we see an expanded rotation? I could certainly see a 9 or 10 man rotation.

Keeping in mind that Verplanken is most likely going to sit out a year, that gives our freshmen guards a chance to get experience.

If Verplanken has to sit, that probably rules out any other guards having the luxury of a RS year.

I also think that Koehler will prove to be a valluable player, Maybe a 6th man sort of thing or maybe as a starter, who knows. :coffee:

As of this writing, Verplancken's waiver has not gone through. It's in the hands of his former school. Across the country, schools are routinely signing off on these things, but his school is dragging it out, not sure why. If he gets that waiver, it makes us quite strong at the 3 spot. We will have a lot of good options there. We already know that Jones will be holding down the 4 spot, barring injuries. We have a lot of options backing him up, especially if Koehler can get and stay healthy. The 5 spot is not really experienced, but we are deep there. It's looking like the 1 and 2 spots will be Dinwiddie and Ballard starting with a lot of options coming off the bench. I'm hoping for a 10 man rotation and I think it is a real possibility. :coffee:
