26 "STARTERS" RETURN FOR 2017 SEASON

To the “GLOOM AND DOOM FOLKS”, I am here to bring encouraging news for the 2017 season. I was EXTREMELY BORED last night so l spent some time in research for solutions and answers and here is my solution to the problems of 2016 = WE HAVE 26 GUYS FOR THE UPCOMING 2017 SEASON WHO ARE RETURNING STARTERS (someone who was a starter for significant days on a depth chart at some point in 2016 season and also someone who played the first offensive or defensive snap of a game). Oh yeah and we also have a lot of specialists returning also (Kick Returners, Punt Returners, Punters, Longsnapper). ALL of those 26 players who are returning starters played SIGNIFICANT, KEY MINUTES IN 2016 SEASON.

Here is my list of guys who started at one point or another this past 2016 season (including fall camp depth charts but were lost to season ending injury prior to first game and who would have been a starter during the season without injuries happening)

Chris Reynolds jr (Scooby) WR So.
Anthony Ricks cornerback Jr.
Mitch Gueller WR So.
Lorenzo Terry Cornerback Sr.
Jayson Miller Safety Jr.
Tanner Gueller QB Jr.
Caleb Brown Cornerback So.
Hagen Graves WR. Sr.
Michael Dean WR So.
Brandon Monroe cornerback So.
Nikko Hayes Safety Jr.
James Madison RB Jr.
Adkin Aguire Safety So.
Joe Martin LB Jr.
Ty Flannigan RB So.
Mario Jenkins LB Sr.
Micah Breland DE Sr.
Dallen Collins OL So.
Brian Fineanganofo OL Jr.
Chase Collins OL Sr.
Skyler Phillips OL Sr.
Jacob Molenar OL So.
Rasheed Williams DE So.
Chance Salutregui DE So.
JonRhyeem Peoples DL Sr.
Trevan Aloi DL Jr.

Specialists :
Andrew Bertenshaw Long Snapper Sr.
Sean Cheney Punter Jr.
Tom Jewell Punter Sr.
Tucker Louie McGhee Punt Returner Jr.
Michael Dean Kick Off Returner So.
Lorenzo Terry Kick Off Returner Sr.
Hagan Graves Punt Returner Sr.
I think Ty Flanigan and or James Madison had some time as Kick Off returners also during early part of season

Are you kidding me!!! 26 returning starters!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t even need to wait for preseason articles to be written by the media, save your time media. This is the preseason article right here. I CANT WAIT FOR THE 2017 SEASON. We literally ALMOST have a returning starter at EVERY POSITION ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL except for tight end, and one linebackacker spot.

Just something to keep in mind. As in all sports at the college level a lot can happen before next September's kick off. The vast majority of the players you named should be back but I'd be very surprised if every single one of them will. That's just the nature of things today.

...I try to always have a positive spin but I would also like to point out...those "26 starters" that return are coming from a 2 and 9 team....I recognize a lot of the players are young....BUT I still think there needs to be a LOT of improvement from the returning players.....dedicated summer work, etc ...PLUS a lot of recruiting....if the fan base is going to be able create any optimism for 2017.....

Chris Reynolds jr (Scooby) WR So. (Scooby will be a playmaker in this league had a great camp)
Anthony Ricks cornerback Jr. :? ( Still young, Need to find another CB to push him to his best)
Mitch Gueller WR So. (Big body got better as the season went on, will be pretty good in 2017)
Lorenzo Terry Cornerback Sr. :ohno: (Juco product with high expectation, outplayed by Freshmen)
Jayson Miller Safety Jr. :? (Okay, still young need to improve in 2017 to solid starter and Factor)
Tanner Gueller QB Jr. :? (Not of fan of mechanics, I really hope he improves in 2017 ton of work ahead)
Caleb Brown Cornerback So. :? (small Struggled a little bit. A full year will benefit him (Spring ball)
Hagen Graves WR. Sr. (had a quiet year but Great reliable possession WR.. A Defeintly need)
Michael Dean WR So. (Fast Fast Fast, Love him in the slot)
Brandon Monroe cornerback So. (Probably the best CB on the team great coverage)
Nikko Hayes Safety Jr. :ohno: ( More of a LB to me, don't like him at Safety)
James Madison RB Jr. (I believe he's a walk on? He's hungry, runs with an attitude)
Adkin Aguire Safety So. :ohno: (Didn't really see him, verdict still out)
Joe Martin LB Jr. (Great season, looking forward to him ball in 2017 NASTY)
Ty Flannigan RB So. ( Next man up, would like to see get more touches, run hard)
Mario Jenkins LB Sr. (injury slowed him down, He's solid LB in the Big Sky)
Micah Breland DE Sr. ( Going to nice to see him opposite side of Williams)
Dallen Collins OL So. Got a ton of playing times, just going to get better)
Brian Fineanganofo OL Jr. (Stays healthy he's a monster)
Chase Collins OL Sr. (experienced now will be solid as well)
Skyler Phillips OL Sr. Glad to see him coming back next year
Jacob Molenar OL So. Just like Dallen, was thrown in the fire, but got a taste he's ready)
Rasheed Williams DE So. ( Can't wait to he's back, made a big difference in 2015)
Chance Salutregui DE So. ( I like him he's long)
JonRhyeem Peoples DL Sr. :ohno: (Big body, would like to see a Juco product come in)
Trevan Aloi DL Jr. :? ( need to watch him more)

...thanks TrueBengal....appreciate reading your opinions....I do think we need more competition at CB....especially in this league....I also liked Chance Salutregui....it would be great to find some more folks that have played D-1...and know what's expected of them...he contributed well I thought...of course JonRhyeem Peoples came to us from a D-1....and i'm disappointed in him....I think he needs an "inner fire"....and I think you either have that....or you don't.....

The defensive secondary to me is the biggest positional issue with this team going into next season.

AWESOME post by you TrueBengal. I really enjoyed reading your analysis of each player listed, thank you for taking the time to break down the positive things as well as areas of needed improvement. I am even more encouraged after seeing that you give 17 SMILEY FACES out of the 26 that are listed (I take that to mean you would consider them to be a person who would have earned a starting spot going into 2017 Spring Practice session). Pretty good position to be in I think

I agree Clawsout about Chance Salutregi I really liked watching him at DE this season.

Thanks Guys

We need Div-1 quality athletes in the secondary. Speed like a Mike dean body frame like KW Williams. Need to hit a Homerun in recruiting preferably Juco kid.

I am torn in offering 9 walkons scholarships. 1 We need depth, 2 it cool rewarding the guys Busting their tales!

1 thing if we were a team on the edge from being great! But we're in the toilet, we need talent in Pocatello and those are 9 scholarships staying in house on a 2-9 team. Again respect to those young men that were rewarded and congrats to the parents/Guardians that are no longer coming out of pocket

Man that would be amazing if we could find a DB as you described with KW Williams body frame 6'1" 212lbs and Mike Dean speed of 4.2-4.3 40 yard dash. Could U imagine what a nightmare that freakish athlete would be for offenses as he comes screaming down hill on run support and eliminating anything vertical in the pass game. You said we need to hit a home run in recruiting, if we got that guy I would say we hit a GRANDSLAM WALK OFF HOME RUN. Big congrats to the walk ons who recieved scholarships, way to work hard guys. Also like U said congrats to there parents. That's exciting times for those players and there families.

On the subject of walk ons = cal poly of our big sky just lost there opening round playoff game AT HOME to university of San Diego out of the Pioneer Conference. The pioneer conference is a NON FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP conference. Yep that's right a team with ZERO football scholarship players just beat a team with 63 FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP players by 14 points AT that full football scholarship teams home field. Pretty cool really and honestly probably TOTALLY unheard of

I do not understand why our defense struggles every season. Maybe, someone can explain why we are always last or close to last in the BSC on defense?

defense is scheme Personnel mindset. The 4-3 helped a lot This year. Personnel this team is just so small and not enough natural athletes. MK cares about Offense and that's it.

All I want for Christmas is an average defense. That is not too much to ask for is it?
