#3 EWU at #13 WEber

Even after the loss, this might be the highest ranked home game in WEber State history. It’s also a great chance at redemption. If we win out, I’m guessing we would still get seeded. South Dakota keeps winning which helps our cause.

The defense and special teams are good enough to give us a chance in any game, we just need to offense to take what’s given and not turn the ball over.

Even good teams can have a bad day. I’m still expecting a large and loud homecoming crowd. I’m also predicting a WEber win! It’s time to see if this team, coaching staff and fans are ready to be a top FCS program, or if 2017 was just a one-off.

This game is huge. We need to get EWU a loss in the loss column. With UM losing and we have a chance to beat ISU, we just need Davis to pick up a loss somewhere, and we can still claim part of the title.

I love the optimism, and I will be there to cheer on the Wildcats. The offense will absolutely need to step up to its highest level for the Wildcats to win. I am having a tough time seeing it happen, but then I never thought I would be alive to see the Cubs win a World Series, so surprises can happen.

Time for the Wildcat offense to take a giant leap forward for the good of the team.

Honestly, with the conference as big as it is, they may need to do two divisions and do a championship game (I think they would be first FCS conference to do it—but they should, even if it means starting a week earlier). If not, they may need to downsize.

NCAA rules don't allow them to start earlier and they can't play a championship game because the playoffs start the week following the final week of the season. So unless NCAA rules change there is little reason to have divisions. I just wish that they could kick UNC to the curb.

I wonder if the confence could do a flex game for the last game of the season. If we had 12 teams, things would workout a lot better. Maybe UNC can go to the MVC and balance things out. They will be at 11 when North Dakota finally joins.

With the personnel lost on the offensive side of the ball this is exactly what I worried about. However, I really did not think a bad result would be this bad; this is awful! I'd like to feel more optimistic but this game is going to be ugly. The defense can't go at it alone which is exactly what they've been having to do. Regardless of the D being on the field far too often and the good they've shown, I still don't think they're deserving of an overall A rating. I'd give last year's D an A for sure. So far this year? A B, maybe B+.

I haven't heard anything about Downs and had no audio trying to watch another crap-ass pluto stream while in the D.C. area. What's the word on him?

Downs was taken off the field wearing an air cast. That is never a good thing. That probably means his season is over. I'm guessing either a broken leg or some type of joint issue. Really, I hope it is merely a fracture that only needs a cast. That would be the absolute best scenario for the big guy. We are going to miss Downs, but Stilson is a tough and experienced tackle and will hold his own. As for injuries on the line. Ugh!! Cannon, Faaumu and now Downs. Two starters and a key backup.

As for this weekend. I'm all for seeing other QBs. Cameron Higgins started his career as a 3rd string redshirt freshman. He was behind both Barnes and Doyle. Actually, he might have been the 4th string guy to start the season because there was also a JC transfer too. Evidently the two starters aren't getting the job done.

Not sure if Gubrud will play but probably won't matter much. Backup Barriere still had 331 yards of offense while drubbing SUU. He's more mobile than Gubrud. Weber's D might slow their O down some but with the way our O is playing I doubt it will be enough. Weber needs to score into the high 30s to have a chance and I just don't see that happening. Why not give Ricedorff a chance? Is he still injured?

Downs has a broken leg. Out for the season.

Amazingly Downs is still starting.

Somehow pulled it off! We got lucky Gubrud wasn’t playing today but I’ll take it.

Who was it that said Josh Davis shouldn’t be returning punts anymore :)

The defense deserves about 1000 game balls. They deserve all the credit for the win today.

Offense continues to underachieve

I love our defense! What an awesome game to watch. Our offense is still difficult to watch, but they didn’t make the big mistakes and got some big first downs.

Go Wildcats! The purple people eaters are back...they just reside in Ogden now.

That's putting it mildly. Another great win by the D. It doesn't seem like they should be able to carry this team to the playoffs alone but hoping they can.

I thought the O made some strides today. It certainly wasn't all bad

I agree. After last week it was a big step forward. And for the most part they protected the ball and did better on 3rd downs. Bottom line is, if you take away the special teams TD, the O still scored enough points to win. Hope Davis is okay. We need him the rest of the way.

The D was just WOW! Without Weber's only turnover Eastern probably only scores 3 points. Amazing considering what their offense has been doing all season. Eastern definitely hasn't faced a D like Weber's this season, and probably won't the rest of the way.

And let's not forget about the special teams. They were awesome again. Probably the best special teams unit in the country.

Only real complaint from me was not kicking the FG late in the game and then running a dive on 4th down with your back starting 10 yards deep. You've got to kick that. You've got one of the best kickers in the country and a FG would have made it a two score game.

But just a great game to watch. Very entertaining.

Please go read the EW fan forum. Delusional, and hilarious. According to them Eastern got beat by an average, mediocre Weber team. They say they would of rolled us with Gubrud at QB. Didn't we beat Gubrud in Cheney last season, causing him to go get drunk and arrested following the game? Their offensive struggles had everything to do with Eastern messing up, and nothing to do with Weber's D. Also giving their D a ton of love. Someone needs to tell them that Weber's offense has made every D look good this year. These guys are as bad as griz fans.

   I don't think that is even possible. I drove through the UM area last week. I kept the windows rolled up so I didn't have to endure the smell.

My .02
Important win for the program. After the debacle down at NAU, this was a very nice win.

Offense - C+
Opening offensive drive looked good. EWU has a very good defense but we showed signs of improvement. Great pitch and catch on the lone Weber offensive TD. Liked what i saw from Devon Cooley in the short passing game. We still have issues at QB, but I thought Constantine grew a little more confidence in this game. He just needs to learn to throw the ball away and not take the sack/fumble. Despite having to use a patchwork running attack due to illness and injury, we moved the ball nicely to kill the clock.

Defense - A-
Another impressive outing by the defense. We shut down a very good offense. Big 4th down stops. Two huge takeaways. Lots of pressure on the pocket. The consistent defensive performance is pretty amazing.

Special Teams - B
Great return by Josh Davis. And zero fumbles. Not sure what happened on the blocked FG, it never got any elevation.

Bring on Montana State.
