Tried to stay off the board as I knew after the loss on saturday it would be ugly. Team did not look good and we lost to a mediocre team, a team we should have beat, we can't let a team shoot that kind of percentage. The game did not have any meaning though, I guess I have a love/hate relationship with the bracketbusters, love watching the better teams play each other, but hate a game like ours where we need to finish strong in conference but have to travel to Cali in the middle of our conference season to play a meaningless game.
Hats off to the Griz and Weber, they are by far the class of the conference this year, and both had big bracketbuster wins. In all reality, they both deserve realistic looks at NCAA/NIT at large bids. I know the NCAA at large is out of the question, but both teams really do have a lot of talent. If the Griz didn't have the bonehead loss to UND and pulled one out against USF at home, or Weber played better against BYU/SMC and didn't lose at the buzzer to ISU it may be a different story.
As far as Eastern goes, we control our own destiny for the 3 or 4 seed, we win out, we will host a game in the tourney, lose 1,2, or all 3 and all bets are off. Heck, there is an outside shot that we don't make it in the tourney, we need to win a least 1 game to pretty much guarantee that. Starts tomorrow with ISU on the road, followed by PSU on saturday. This team needs to step up, it appears we have had the exact opposite season as ISU, they were predicted to have a down season, we were predicted to have a better season, and the roles kind of reversed, they have been better than expected and well we have been somewhat the opposite. If we win, that will change a lot tomorrow. Looking forward to a big win tomorrow, we have not had one in a while.
On another note...after this weekend, we will have played 11 home games and 18 road games, with 2 of those home games against non D1 opponents, meaning we played 9 D1 home games and 18 D1 road games. Not the best schedule for success. I know we will never draw bigger teams to Cheney, but its difficult to win with that many road games. Also, 2 of our last 3 are against ISU and if we finish 3/6 or 4/5 in conference we will have to play them 3 times in 10 days...I know not our fault, but just a weird scheduling flaw.
