Whoa, whoa, if I wasn't at the game and read most of the comments on here, I would have thought we lost today.

We won, we are undefeated in conference, and we are still ranked #2 in the country. Does everyone realize how many injuries and/or freshman we have playing on D? We will get players back from injuries, freshman will mature, we will be just fine, more than fine, we will be GREAT.

Look at our schedule, there is hardly a game out there that scares me. The Griz will give us a challenge, but besides that, we will be favored big from here on out. If we win out, which we should, and should easily, we will host every playoff game. No one is going to beat us in Cheney this year, we are going to be just fine. We are not going to win every game going away, it just isnt going to happen...

Does everyone remember the 2010 season? Did we have ANY blowouts? We were crushed by MSU that year, had to pull out a crazy comeback against a terrible Northern Colorado team, beat a middle of the road Sac team in Cheney in the last minute, and pulled a miracle against NDSU.

We are going to have games like today, our defense gives up points, but guess what, we won, we are 5-1 and we are just fine. Relax, move on with the D, and enjoy the ride. We have a long trip still ahead this year and this team is bound for special things...

I agree with you to an extent, but the issue isn't that we're playing close games. I do remember the 2010 season, and the difference between now and then is that even in those close games, teams weren't scoring 50 points on us. We had at least one elite player at every level of the defense (Williams, Sherritt AND Zach Johnson, and Matt Johnson). Our offense in 2010 was good, but not great...defense was the difference...led the nation in T/O margin that year. That's not a coincidence.

We will have an elite offense every year under the current coaching staff. I hate to say it, but the D needs to catch up. And I am also one of the biggest homers out there.

Not saying we can't or won't run the table in the Big Sky, but it'll take a monumental effort by the D to do anything in the playoffs, let alone make it to the semi's. See great offensive teams that lost in the semi's last year...EIU, and of course, us.

I think the number of guys were playing on defense is a large part of the problem. Our starting 11 from game one is pretty much intact. We need to get honest with these older leaders and tell them they need to do more heavy lifting, and that means playing most or all of the game. I made the earlier post that we've got our two top safeties available, and yet we had a number of younger guys rotating in that were absolutely at 6s and 7s, out of position by a mile.

I guarantee you that you don't need to "tell" the older leaders they need to play more. They would love to but they don't get a say in the rotation. Sitting out every other series isn't something they enjoy...
