I see you're still riding high with that big win over Antelope Valley last year.

I was going to tell you to go post at your own board but then I notices the last post was over a month ago

I will bet either one of you right now that this guy doesn't crack your starting lineup....if he does, you guys are in trouble....3 pts and 2 reb per.....guy is just filling in for about 10 mins per game to give your starter a break....any takers on the bet??? I'm not saying that Shantay can't recruit but this guy is absolutely no proof that he CAN recruit....get a grip on reality....if you had made these boasts after the Polanco signing, you wouldn't have heard from me but 3 pts and 2 rebs... give me a break.....meh..... :ohno:

Actually, I did boast after the Polanco signing, saying he will be the BSC freshman player of the year.

And I didn't say a peep....EOM...

We're getting a 7-footer that can move his feet and get up and down the court. He's probably going to average somewhere between 3 to 7 points a game but anyone that's judging him by points scored is missing the point. Absolutely a great addition to our team. Not many 7-footers in the Big Sky that are legit athletes. My guess is that he's never been used in a way that fits his skill set either. The best coaches know how to utilize their talent and I know Legans has a plan for him. Most of his impact will probably come on defense in the way he alters shots. If he changes 2 to 5 shots a game he's done his job. That's anywhere from 4 to 10 points that our opponents don't get and that makes a huge difference in close games. Those stats don't always show up on the stat sheet either but they impact games. I'm happy to have this kid. I'm not worried if he ever becomes a scorer. We've got PLENTY of fire power.

Hmmm....18 points for the 7-footer in his first game against a West Coast Conference team. A victory no less. Not saying he's going to do that every game, but not to shabby for a guy that isn't supposed to be able to play.

I will admit that he did way more than I predicted in this game.....if he does half as well the rest of the season, I will admit that I was wrong....so far, I eat crow, but it's not over yet....

Sacstateman, I don't think anyone around here thinks this guy is going to average 18 per game this season. Somewhere in the upper single digits is probably more like it. He even exceeded what I thought he would be contributing in terms of offense. 18 points and 9 boards in 25 minutes is very efficient. Even with the great offensive effort last night against Portland, I still think his biggest impact will be on defense this season. Not many Big Sky teams have a 7-footer that can move their feet like this kid. He will force teams to change the way they go at us in the paint.

On offense he presents some interesting challenges for a defense. I'm almost positive that not many teams in America have a 7-footer that can step out and knock down the 3-ball with regularity like he can. It will be interesting to see how we use him on offense. If you put a big man on him he will take you outside. If teams try to go smaller I'm sure we will try to go inside with him.

I understand where you are coming from with your opinions though. Most 7-footers that are decent don't transfer out if they can play. Most 7-footers have a tendency to be a little clumsy and trip over their own feet. The ones that can play usually end up in a major conference. However, from the beginning Shantay said this kid could play and he was a very good athlete and not like most 7-footers....And when he said that, I believed him. He might be an average player in a bigger conference but he should be an impact player in the Big Sky since he seems to be the athlete that Shantay said he is. I do think Shantay did a great job finding this kid and I believe that we are very lucky to get him. Time will tell though. If he doesn't pan out, I won't have any trouble saying that you were correct. Hoping for the best though.
