a good conversation with a WSU alum and destination Ogden

This is a bit off topic but I know this is where most conversation goes on with your fans.

I met a former Weber State track and field athlete today during training at the high school I work at in Arizona. Brad Barton ran track (steeplechase) for WSU in the early 90s. I enjoyed chatting Big Sky Conference athletics with him. Good speaker and a dynamic personality. He represents Weber State University well.

This got me thinking that it's about time that I mark a destination off of my bucket list......and attend my first basketball game @ Weber State University. Preferably the day that WSU plays my alma mater on Saturday, February 14th.

There aren't too many NAU basketball fans here on the internets so I've had to search out conversation elsewhere. Over the years I've spent a decent amount of time here trying to drum up conversation and have always found your fan base to be passionate, reasonable and approachable.

Awesome, hopefully you can meet a few of the forum members while you are here. 25th street is a good place to find some great food. Well atleast we're passionate and approachable, right now we're too amped up for the basketball season to get started so we can see what our team looks like to be deemed "reasonable"... :-D

MT Jack,

I hope you can make your way to Ogden for a game. I'm a fellow Arizonan also but grew up in Ogden and attended WSU. If I'm ever in Ogden during the winter I try to time my trips so that I can make it to a game at Weber. The games are a lot of fun to attend and reasonably, for a NAU game on a Saturday night, you could expect a good crowd (7,000+).

I'm obviously a Weber State fan but also just a big college hoops fan in general. I've lived all over the US and attended other Universities also. So I've attended games in several college basketball arenas. I'm probably a little biased but in my opinion the Dee Events Center is one of the nicest college basketball arenas anywhere. It's not the biggest arena (although large, especially by Big Sky standards) but at 35 years old is still a remarkable facility. Weber has done an excellent job keeping up the facility and modernizing/renovating over the years. My wife is a BYU Alum and attended BYU games at the vast Marriott Center growing up and as a student. The first time I took her to a Weber State game at the Dee Events Center she was amazed at how nice it was. Smaller than the Marriott Center but much nicer. As Alumni and fans of the basketball team it is truly an aspect of the program that we take pride in.

And with a great fan base and teams that regularly win a lot of games that place can get rocking when the Wildcats get on a roll. On occasions of really big games when the Dee is at or near capacity (10,000-12,000) it is a special atmosphere for college basketball!

Always great to hear from you MTJack. Dont be a stranger. Hopefully you have a great visit when you decide to make the trek out here. Always great to meet and chat with other fans, and you are one if not the best.

Wildcat, wsucatfan and Zonacat -

Thanks for the input. I'm going to start working on logistics in October/November. I have a high school friend living in/near Park City who is a big time hoops fan. Maybe I can get their family to attend the game in Ogden as well?
