Two seasons after leaving UH to become Portland State’s head coach, Jerry Glanville is coming to the Warriors’ defense.
Glanville allowed defensive back Daniel Smith to join the Vikings and he signed a scholarship release for offensive lineman Whitley Fehoko.
In February, Smith, who will be a freshman this season, filed a lawsuit against UH, claiming it reneged on a promise to honor a scholarship offer made in April 2007. UH argued that Jeff Reinebold, who was a UH assistant coach at the time, was not authorized to make the offer, and that any verbal offer was not binding after June Jones resigned as UH head coach in January.
Glanville said Smith is a walk-on.
Fehoko, who originally played at San Diego State, left there and signed a scholarship agreement with Portland State. But because of family reasons, he wanted to return to Hawai‘i. The release allows him to contact UH. His father is Vili the Warrior.
