A little bit of motivation going into the Idaho game

The Eagles and Vandals meet at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane a year after Idaho makes the "move up" to the Big West and 1-A status. Down by 4 points with just a little over a minute left on the clock, Qb Harry Leons had the daunting task of driving the offense 64 yards to score the winning TD. Connecting with WR Jeff Ogden for passes of 23 and 38 yards that took only seconds off the clock, Leons was able to orchestrate a 4 play drive that was capped off by a 4 yard TD run by RB Rex Prescott to defeat the Vandals by a score of 24-21. This improved the Eagles record to 8-1 and undoubtedly was a key win enroute to their best ever regular season record (10-1), and first trip to the semi-finals of the Division I-AA playoffs. I still remember the catch that Jeff Ogden made near the goal line in the final seconds of that game. He made an incredible catch while being sandwiched by two Vandal defenders, got knocked out for a couple seconds, but still hung on to the ball.

Dick Zorne's Eagles meet Dennis Erickson's Idaho Vandals in the opening round of the 1-AA Playoffs. Qb Rick Worman connects with Jamie Townsend for a 73 yard pass to set-up Worman's game-winning 17-yard touchdown pass to Eric Riley with 12 seconds to play.

September 6th, 2003 - EWU 8, Idaho 5

One of the strangest games I have ever watched. A young Erick Meyer comes into the game in the 3rd quarter and moves the Eagles down the field to throw his 1st ever collegiate TD to Joe Pierce and then converts for 2 points. Eastern's defense holds Idaho scoreless in its last 11 possessions of the game.

October 20, 1984 - EWU 32, Idaho 25

Eastern shocks Idaho at Joe Albi Stadium in its first full year as a Division I school.

What's common between all these games? No one gave the Eags a chance to win. Let's hope the boys can put another great W in the record books this Thursday night. :thumb:

All due respect, the only one of those games that wasa big upset was 1985. Idaho beat Eastern pretty handily earlier in the year. Neither team was all that great in 2003. Eastern was phenomenal in 1997 and damn near gave the game away by driving deep multiple times and not scoring. The first game at Albi was when EWU was pretty good, before the budget cuts ravaged the university in the late 80s.

Hey, what about the win in '91? I remember watching it on TV and seeing some sign an idiot student made stuck to to the wall on the sidelines in the Kibbie Dome. It read "EWU - Extremely Wimpy University" God it was fun to watch them get beat.
