A new hoops arena...

...is a pipe dream of mine. With state funding evaporating and no major corporation (Goretex....Purina...what else is stationed in Flagstaff?) ever showing any interest in stepping up I think it's time that NAU gets creative.

The U of Oregon just opened a brand, spanking new basketball arena. The court is named in honor of Phil Knight's son and funded by Uncle Phil himself. For anyone that's spent time in Flagstaff and Eugene, Oregon (U of Oregon), the comparisons between the two towns and universities is apparent. Both are big time running towns with a mix of college kids, hippies and outdoorsy types. The fact that NAU athletics has a contract with Adidas can be swept under the rug, I'm sure. Nike has a lot to gain as well. NAU's basketball team can become Nike-sponsored in order for Nike to get their hands into the immense market that is NAU athletics.

This is what happens when I walk around ASU's new basketball training facility/practice gym and look at pictures of Oregon's new gym.

By the way....NAU mens hoops playing well right now. Womens hoops is showing signs of life as well. Get out and support em, Lumberjacks fans.

keep dreaming mtjack

Nike would never invest in Flag

Just curious, where do you think they would build it if they did? Not a Rolle for sure, There's no room for parking. Next to the Dome? It's fun to speculate. I'd love to see one like Weber's. They have the best basketball court in the Big Sky for sure.

Well I'll be damned, King. Looks like the first step in getting a new basketball arena was actually given the green light.

I can't find the article/link at the moment but the renovation of the fieldhouse (guessing they're talking about the gym attached to the north side of main union....across the parking lot from the library) is to turn it into a basketball arena.
