A question for my Weber friends

Chuck Wight visited Idaho State yesterday as part of the ongoing presidential search. I have to say, I was impressed by what he had to say, at least via the local media coverage of his visit. My question to you Weber folks is: in your estimation, was he a good president for Weber State? Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

The first response that rolls off of my tongue is: I'm not sure. He is a very nice guy but i am not sure that he has done a whole lot of change in the 5 or so years he has been here. His two predecessors stand out to me a little more than he does. He did vote for moving the conference tournament to reNO. So maybe that is swaying my opinion. But the general response I heard when he was resigning was, okay.

Thanks for the input guys. It will be interesting to see how this search all turns out. With enrollment dropping and more competition coming from BYU-Idaho and College of Eastern Idaho, this hire needs to be a good one.

ISU would be fortunate to get someone of his caliber.

Look Duft, just because you are 100% pro WSU, doesnt mean that they would be "fortunate." Academically. I think ISU tops WSU. ISU has a great PA, nursing, and engineering schools, with talks of a medical school being affiliated with with ISU. They will get whoever they want. Just because he was here for 5 years, doesnt automatically make him superior to other institutions in the conference.

As for Chuck, I literally saw him 3 times on campus as a student. He attends all the bball games, but as far as things he will be known for? Only thing that comes to mind in getting the funding for Tracy Hall.

This whole situation hasn't made much sense to me. I really don't have any information or opinion on the job Wight has done at Weber, but it seems very odd to me that he would resign without first having another job or why he would resign to search for another job that would seem to me to be a parallel move. Would he even get a pay increase from ISU? Is he being pressured to resign, or does he just want a change of scenery? I know Ogden isn't for everybody, but if it's for a change in scenery, most people wouldn't consider Pocatello and ISU much of an upgrade.

Sorry if I offended you Olds.

isu would be lucky to get chuck. he would be a big loss for wsu. "dream 125" alone is all you need know how awesome he is and to think they over achieved by a large margin on it makes it that much more impressive.

Dream 125 was MUCH more than just Chuck. Leave it to someone in the Bay Area to assign credit for something a 1,000 iles away. By the way, CatCat, he has already resigned from WSU.

Regarding salary, ISU's retiring president is making around $400,000. I don't know how often UtahsRight.com is updated, but it shows Wight's salary to be $307,000. I've liked what I've seen of Wight.

Biggest issue with Chuck? He has had a chance to increase salaries for staff and faculty and hasn't done it. Hell, as a parting gift to the Utah Legislature (a middle finger if you ask me) he should match whatever is given.
