What would you have him do, particularly on the fourth downs? I assume you are talking about the final score and the final drive. A FG absolutely is out of the question as that is certainly running up the score. Would you send a message to your kids that may not see the field again this year that can't play to compete by taking a knee turning the ball over? Would you have your punter pooch a kick to the five blatently sending the message that you don't respect the Wildcats enough to give full effort?
Coach Whittingham essentially spent the majority of the second half trying to run the clock out to the prevent scoring to the point where only 5 passes were thrown in the entire 30 minutes. I haven't rewatched the second half yet to verify but our group was noticing that virtually every play - if not every play - was a run straight at the A or B gap on the last drive. At that point, even though your players knew the only way they could do to save face was to stop the Utes, they couldn't.
I would be fascinated to hear your ideas how the quarter could have played out differently.
