So, I'm not exactly a fan of US News & World Report rankings, primarily because they are stupid. But one thing got me thinking:
Undergraduate fall acceptance rate 2009
UO: 80% (selective)
OSU: 83% (selective)
PSU: 79% (selective)
Now, granted an urban institution attracts some pretty weird applicants, but on the other hand, I assume these numbers include community-college grads who have automatic admission, and more of these go to PSU than to UO and OSU.
Anyway, these rankings are overly simplistic. But it makes you wonder if it isn't time to reconsider the old "open admission" picture many people have of PSU.
