Advantage EWU

You know what I see this as a huge advantage to EWU going into the game versus Oregon as long as he is their starting QB.
Who knows VA better than our D?
With only a couple of weeks to prepare with his Wideouts.....Anything is POSSIBLE!

VA's not who I am concerned about, it's all their other athletes. I could also see them sitting him after the 1st quarter. Let's be honest, this game won't be close for more than a quarter. I think Oregon should buy out the game and reschedule for a later date.

Play the game as scheduled
This is the very best PR national coverage for the Eagles ever.
We need to ride this wave of national coverage.
The beginning of the season and we will be all over the national news.
Plus next year we play WSU and it will be with a great D and experienced QB.
What great fun.

Agreed. No reason to buy out the game. It is the equivalent of saying "we're taking our toys and going home".

If I were the other 100 or so players in this program, I'd be using this as motivation going into Spring Ball. There is no "I" in TEAM. GO EAGS!!!

From Athletic Director Bill Chaves . . .

“We wish Vernon the best in his future endeavors and thank him for all that he has done for Eastern. The chance for him to pursue this opportunity is certainly a unique one given the fifth-year transfer rule. We are not sure that this was the actual intent of the legislation when it was approved, but it is the rule currently in place that we and potentially other schools have to adhere to. We will continue to work through the process of this transfer based on the rule as it stands now.”

From Head Coach Beau Baldwin . . .
“I am very thankful for everything Vernon has done for Eastern and our football program these past four seasons. I wish him nothing but the best in his senior season. We are very confident in the quarterbacks in our program, and our expectations and goals are the same for what we are capable of accomplishing in the 2015 season.”

Exactly right Ron, this is a soap opera like no other.

Taking the high road, but I love Chaves quote and I hope they try to close that loop hole.
Thinking about this and how this all kind of started with the potential coaching moves. I would love for the NCAA to legislate how coaches come and go from one job to the next. Have a open and closing period for coaches to move from one school to another and push back the NLI date to accommodate for this. I wonder how much of VA transferring had to do with the potential of Baldwin leaving (not knowing who would be coming in).

i think it will look really bad on oregon's part if they don't at least offer.

I appreciate your half-full attitude, but this is about the worst thing that could happen to Eastern or non-top tier schools. This is awful press coverage; our most prolific player decided he doesn't want to be affiliated with the university any more. It also is an alarming message that we are potentially a 4-year JC, where the best players are available for transfer if they have a redshirt year remaining.

It is what it is... one less guy to worry about. I still think VA is a fringe NFL guy at best, and would need to walk into a near perfect scenario to have a lengthy career. A year at Oregon, regardless of his level of success, isn't going to change that. But from today onward, he's just a guy playing for another team...

High class from Eastern... Sad that Vernon really had nothing positive to say about Eastern on his way out the door. "It was a tough decision...", seriously?

Well, I guess to be fair. He did say that he loves EWU. Meh, time to move on.

The defense will be licking their chops. Four years of "Didn't Stay VA" wearing an "off limits" jersey in practice and now they get to tee off on him.

Enjoyed watching you Vern, and wish you the best, but I'm looking forward to Evan Day coming from your blind side and rattling your teeth!

I agree that Adams is fringe. Not because of his game but because of his size. I honestly think he has a better shot of getting there if he were to stay. He was at a place he would dominate again, end up with the Payton and go out on top. NFL scouts know him. He's screwed up his chances if he's not #1 on the depth chart or has a mediocre year. West is more than capable of taking over. Eastern has been on top of the QB recruiting year after year.

Any word on Evan Day's hardship year?

This guy gets it. If Adams gets the starting job, the story that he is playing his former team will be reported all over the place. If you want people to hear about your program, this is a great opportunity. I would love to see your team play well in that game, even though, obviously, I will be rooting for the Ducks.
