Aliotti to the Vikes?

Burton must be holding out before hiring a DC to see if he falls out of favor with Helfrich. What on earth is the hold up.....unless they are waiting until LOI day, maybe they are that busy.

I get a feeling that all this kind of news will come out around National Letter-of-Intent initial signing day on February 6th. Our first big celebration of this year for the great recruiting era taking place under Burton's administration. Right now, the staff is hard at work and will come up for air on that date. :thumb:

I was using an absurd idea as to what was taking so long for the Viks to name a DC.

Oh, I get it. I'm in the same mindset. Wouldn't it have been prudent to have a DC in place before letter of intent day ? There are a lot of top notch defensive players that would probably like to know what to expect !

Chances are the reason it is taking so long to find a good DC is the salary PSU can pay them. To be honest, I'm surprised we have the talent we do in the Athletic Department with the salary they are paid. Could be why so many start their careers here then move on to better paying jobs. If the university paid more we could probably keep these talented individuals and attract more. Doesn't help our cause when the budget keeps getting cut and the governor wants to take away some of the lottery money. Aliotti probably make more as an assistant FB coach than our FB head coach and AD combined. Agree, it is an absurd idea he would leave.

We must offer a good coach an offer they cannot refuse.

Which is something that we unfortunately give anyone. But it's a nice idea.

Heard a rumor that Nigel has hired a Defensive Coordinator.
No confirmation, but sounds like he has hired JAMIE HILL -- last of BYU and coach at PSU in the 90's.
Secondary guy with coaching experience in the NFL (Niners) and the CFL.
Sounds like he has plenty of experience (although let go from BYU--which happens to lots of good coaches!)to bring the defense up to level that will support our powerful offense.

GO VIKS !!!

Lots of information out there on him. But one paragraph in this article sticks out to me:

"The Tulsa game aside, Hill's defenders have rarely been caught looking clueless with the ball in the air. Or turned around in an awkward position. Or frozen to a hash mark. Or caught taking a stupid angle ..."

Hired.

Jaime Hill (pronounced HAI-may)
Prior To Byu scapegoating incident:
2004-05 Ottawa Renegades (CFL) co-defensive coordinator;
2003 Calgary Stampeders secondary coach;
2002 Humboldt State University defensive coordinator;
2001 (XFL) San Francisco Demons defensive coordinator;
1997-98 San Francisco 49ers (NFL) defensive assistant and secondary
1993-96 Portland State University defensive coordinator;
1992 University of Chicago defensive coordinator;
1990-91 Sonoma State secondary coach;
1989 Northern Arizona receivers and tight ends;
1988 UTEP graduate assistant;
1987 San Francisco State student assistant wide receivers.
This may turn out to be a well-studied, well-thought-through and well-value-producing hire. PSU itself is often treated as a scapegoat, not as the golden child. Coach Hill can develop his defense and himself up right here in the friendly incubator and conduit of Portland State University. On the surface, this appears to be a strong win-win. May he experience something here of redemption and create something of his masterpiece during his tenure here at PSU. Create the golden child within you. Believe in you.

Off the narcissists.

It is official.

The article states that "Burton will also reassume his past duties as the team's cornerbacks coach." Nigel, the cornerbacks have been crap under you. Can't you let someone else coach that position?

Give him the benefit of the doubt. He covered all of the defense, not just the corners, after the mid-season firing.
Hill never lacked a job, which says something, though apparently not in the last three years - that may be just the tarring of the BYU brush. I'd have to look back on the Walsh years. We'll just have to wait and see.
