While Mike Kramer, who has won four Big Sky championships as a head coach, has already hired most of his coaching staff and has been out recruiting for a couple of weeks now, Northern Colorado's 19-person search committee is still in the process of hiring its coach and its finalists are the Alcorn State coach who just signed a three-year extension, two D-II guys and Montana's defensive coordinator:

I wish Northern Colorado the best of luck. I really hope that they go with the Montana DC. It is important to make the right choice, but every day that they wait hurts quite a bit with recruiting. I am really glad that Tingey did not go the search committee route and had a coach in place the Monday after Zamberlin's game. You know that Kramer was working in the weeks leading up to the announcement on some of the things that he would need to take care of to hit the ground running as quickly as possible.

Absolutely. Tingey nailed this hire... Done fast and done RIGHT!

Now, the 2 year extension we'll be paying the last year of this year... umm

All is forgiven if we start winning :D

Well over a month later, and UNC has yet to name a coach. Meanwhile, 3 of the finalists have withdrawn their names from consideration. Apparently UNC offered the job to Dave Logan, a high school football coach and radio broadcaster for the Denver Broncos, but he turned it down. Logan wasn't even one of the five announced finalists, and the two who remain are the head coaches from Chadron State and Alcorn State.

Kudos again to Jeff Tingey for striking early with the hire of Kramer!
