Whatta bummer for SUU. Lamb was a great coach for them. Is he Mormon? If so, that might explain the move... BYU for Mormons is like Notre Dame to Irish Catholics-- it'll always be the pinnacle. I like the way SUU plays and they are a fun team to root for. I felt like they got hosed in their playoff game when they had the game-altering non-PI call. If that call gets made correctly (and it wasn't even remotely close), they win.

They're graduating a ton of talent...Cowser, Holly, Needimgham, Olsen. Probably had something to do with it.

Lamb played at BYU and was a GA there after his playing career was over.

Coaching at the FBS level is well worth taking an assistant position vs being a head coach at FCS level. As HC at FCS, thats it, you are a HC at an FCS program regardless of how good the program may be. Coaching in the FBS level has virtually unlimited possibilities.

There is definitely more in terms of the risk/reward factor. I think the risk, for FCS HC's, is that you're most likely going to be taking over a program that needs a lot of work. See Wulff at WSU, or Hauck at UNLV. You're not going to go someplace successful right off the bat. If you are able to turn a crappy FBS program around, it will open all kinds of doors. If not, it's a fast track to unemployment after 2-3 years (or at least looking for another job, and in some cases one that's not as good as the job you left in the first place).

You can be sure Baldwin doesn't take the FBS leap, whether that's as an OC, or HC, until he finds the right fit. And I'm not sure why he would - he has a good job at Eastern.
